Hi,

Just noticed a slight noise coming from behind the dash clocks. The noise seems to be line with the wheel motion noisier and slower when car is slow and opposite when car goes faster????? Idea,s
Speedo cable?

Hi.

I noticed a similar noise coming from that area a few miles before my speedo cable went. So could be that.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong... I think the early 944s (pre 85 oval dash) have mechanical speedo cables from the offside right wheel hub (RHD car), whereas the later cars have an electrical link from a hall-effect sensor on the transaxle.

A spare speedo cable is a VW part, I think - I remember it being quite cheap. Got garage to fit it though which wasn't so cheap...

Oh, and the cable on my 84 2.5 Lux went after 137,000 miles...

Yep, old dash mechanical £11 for the cable, oval dash electric..................

Almost correct apart from the speedo cable on early cars is located on the N/S hub on both Lhd/Rhd cars.
