Hi
I'm have a 944 2.7 project (1989)- that has just come out of a long term layup (4 years or so)

It needs sills of course, but the rest of the body looks to be in good shape and had a FSH prior to its layup.
Anyway - I need advice on the alarm system fitted to the car.
I think there are 2 alarms after reading around on the web - one which has the door leds and ultrasonics - which I think are original porsche items and the other is an aftermarket META immobiliser.

Can someone advise me on how the porsche alarm system works? As soon as I put a charged battery on the car, the leds light up and stay on - normal? How is it armed/disarmed? The car handbook is brief on the details.
The META immobiliser is another problem - the key I have to it is not working (i.e. the push in key does not disarm the immobiliser) - and I get no power to any of the ignition circuits or electric windows/sunroof. I think I;m going to remove it (it clearly is spliced in at the fusebox. Just wondered if anyone had experience of this alarm system and its removal?

Thanks
Ian

personally, trace it all, rip it out and start over...

i HATE dodgy alarm installs, how they can fit a thatcham 1 alarm in 4 hours is beyond me.

A proper install can take 2 days - i removed a installed (with thatcham one cert) in one and half hours, without the thing going off once :)

Reading around other 'alarm' forums - that also seems to be the advice.
I'll take out the immobiliser first and see if I then have a problem with the porsche alarm. A link on a sticky here gave guidance on how to bypass the porsche alarm to check if it is faulty.

If you guys want advice on car alarms, go onto www.talkaudio.co.uk/vbb. The people to talk to on there regarding Alarms are Nige, VD (also known as Van Dave), Jexdirectedtech (Jim: the ex main person of Directed Audio, who own Clifford...), and the Troublestarter (someone who installs them for a living and has a good reputation).

As you will see on some posters on TA, and many others out there, people say my alarm goes bleep on an off, so it must be fine. When you consider out of an old car I took a top end CAT 1 Alarm out of it (a Clifford 650) in 30 minutes, you do wonder how some people get certificates. I hate to say it, but most DIYers out there could probably install a car better if they had a spare week (I mean to be well concealed and working well). A good pro will take around 2 days.

Hi :)

I have a new Clifford 650/G5 just fitted to my 928...and its brilliant !!!

I am so impressed , I am about to have the Voice command module added....total cost of everything will end up at £900 all in...

It has remote starting (Intellistart) a voice proximity alarm, an anti hijacking system (Blackjax) and anti tilt...screen flashing led, etc etc....

Highly recommended.....

I realise its a lot of money but my 928 is worth many times that cost and I would be extremely upset if it vanished lol....

All the best Brett :)
