Hello to all,

At speed, the wipers on my car start to lift, to the point that they are not very effective. Are there any aftermarket additions or improvements that can be made?

Thanks,

RB

I think you have four options:

1. Different wiper blades, if you haven't already got them try the ones with spoilers or maybe the "Aero" style.

2. Replace the wiper arms, or at least the springs, to see if they improve the situation.

3. Drive slower, so that the wipers can keep up.

4. Drive faster but turn the wipers off and let the flow of air carry the water off the screen (you may also wish to use one of those water-repellant windscreen treatments, but some say they can interfere with your wax/polish so not good if you like a shiny finish)

Hi :)

What I did was...

Replaced wipers with one inch longer (20 instead of 19 from memory)

I got mine from OILMAN.... Blue as well lol...

Speed should make no difference as mine work fine at 150 plus...

I also tried one of those "treatments" which "sort of" worked but not worth £9...

Finally I got fed up with my rusty wiper arms so replaced with new, which improved them slightly...

Best of the above was probably the 1 inch extra....who says size doesn't matter :)

I deleted my rear as no point with tint...

All the best Brett :)

Have you got the Bosch pair with spoiler on driver side to resist lifting (you can have them on both sides if you wish)?

The arms are prone to lifting as only single spring arm. GTS arms had double spring which is usual arrangement on cars today.

The 1991 on versions are the 2 spring ones, these are now listed for 1987 thru 95 cars

Mine are just damn slow. Virtually stop as they sweep across the screen. Any thoughts??

Thanks Jim,
Could be, would make sense .... I will have a root around at the weekend and see what I can find.
Might spray some WD40 in the motor and linkages as well?

Regards
Paul

Hi Paul :)

You do realise there are TWO speeds...normal and fast...plus intermittent if you pull the lever towards you.....

Do both speeds work ???

Sounds like a seized linkage or motor gone :(

All the best Brett :)

Hi Brett,

Not sure to be honest. I will have a fiddle tomorrow if I can.

I think I have tried both speeds, but can't be certain from memory. Something else to sort :-)

Regards
Paul

Hi Paul :)

Oops I got that wrong....

1 click UP is normal speed

2 clicks UP is double speed

---------------------------

1 click DOWN is intermittent

---------------------------

Pull TOWARDS you is WINDSCREEN washers (HELD TOWARDS YOU)

1 flick TOWARDS you is 3 wipes only

----------------------------------

PUSH lever AWAY and HOLD is headlight washers

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Phew finally got that all correct...i think lol :)

All the best Brett :)

Watchcam can I suggest you read Steve Jones' write-up on dismantling and refurbishing his wiper motor on the 928.org.uk site? May be the fix for yours. He's a very keen TIPEC guy too but I don't think he uses this forum much.

Thanks for that .... good advice, will check the article out and go from there.
It can't be too difficult to sort, just not got around to it yet.

Regards
Paul
