I bought a fuel filter for my Lux about a year ago and when I heard about breaking fuel pipes etc I kept putting the job off.
I have since christmas, sprayed the pipe fixings with wd40 several times and today I replaced the filter with ease :D
This is one of the to do jobs and Iam really pleased to have now done it.
The old one looked soooo old

I changed the fuel filter on my old car (98 Passat) and the difference was night and day. I have to overhaul most of the fuel system on my car so it'll be getting a nice new filter on there all in good time.

What difference did it make for you guys?

Bar the fuel filter (I have a Mahle Knecht one waiting in the garage) every other service item has been changed.

The one on my VW hadn't ever been changed for 10 years so afterwards the engine just felt much livelier and was much more revvy as the old filter must have been restricting the fuel flow (unsurprisingly).

For how cheap the item is it's definitely worth getting it replaced, they're normally meant to be done after so many miles anyway.

I felt that mine was more responsive although it might be me feeling better about another off my tick list? :D
Mind you judging by the dirty fuel that came out of the filter,I would have had future problems Iam sure.

Did mine on Friday also, a bit more of a bugger about when the diff oil cooler is fitted ala Turbo, it gets right in the way, petrol running down your arms to your pits is also a bugger :)

Fuel filters get forgotten even by garages! The Bosch pump is actually cooled by the fuel running through it so if it has to pup against an obstruction it runs hotter & reduces its life. So good idea to change the filter every other service (24K max).
