High All.

New here, new to Porsche (well sort of...) Been a fan of the cars since a kid. Finally got to a stage in my life where I can
afford/justify one...

It's a minefield! :?:

My heart says a 911, however a friend (has a friend) that has a 928 4.7 auto strosek for sale.
1986 Auto (just found this out, wanted a manual) 56K bright yellow... wants 7-8K.

Anyone got any thoughts/advice??? Please dont hold back, i have a thick skin, and really am
looking for all feedback good and bad!

Thanks in advance

bongmanab :D

Firstly Hi & Welcome

Not keen on body kits either on 944 or 928 but that one isn't too bad to be honest. You certainly wouldn't be anonymous in it that is for sure.

Hi and welcome.

I echo Jim's comments - I like original, but that one looks good. Tastefully done.

As for cost vs vehicle, I'm sure it won't be long before a 928 owner/researcher is on to help you.
Most hearts will say 911 though because that's the stereotypical Porsche, but there are far more models to choose from.
Take advice, turn up to a local TIPEC meet (where abouts are you?), many will even let you test drive to try theirs out - these TIPEC bods are usually keen to show off the merits of their own model.

Good luck in your search and keep popping back.

Ask in the 928 specific part of the forum for a wider range of views, but my initial thought is that a "normal" 928 of that age would probably cost no more than £4000. Therefore, unless it has had engine tuning or the mileage is particularly low or the condition is absolutely faultless, you'd be paying a very large premium for a body kit; whether it's worth it to stand out from the crowd (Strosek and Gemballa were the only two well-known, "official" modifiers and even then the number of cars in this country could probably be counted on your fingers and toes) is something only you can decided.

I think it looks good in yellow, whereas a non-modified car probably wouldn't.

Hi :)

Absolutely spot on...... I also own an 86 928 S2 and although its the year everyone wants as it has the S4 brakes and suspension, they are unfortunately not worth £7k...

Even with that body kit, which personally I like its value is much more like 4k to 5k (possibly) thats assuming there is NOTHING at all wrong with it...

For that money say £5k it would need a full years MOT, and everything electrical MUST work properly including the Aircon (oh and they never "just need regassing, lol)

If it had any problems at all, like anything not working, then think 2k to 4k....

Do you know WHEN the cambelt/water pump were last CHANGED ....they must be done every 4 years like clockwork......if not done recently allow around £500 plus to have it done....

I think I have seen that car for sale before....did it come from East Anglia direction ??? Norfolk or Yarmouth or somewhere similar ? If it is the same car, it had Comptomotive Alloys on from memory with a goldish colour as part of them I think ......I cannot see from that picture ?

If you give us more details like what works and what doesn't etc and any problems then we can advise you better on the price....

Also that S2 is about as low as mine, so it will be an absolute pig to get over speed bumps....... take my word :( :(

All the best Brett :)

Thanks Brett, for the detailed response, 1st time user of Forums, despite spending much of my working life on a computer.. Never really realised the benefits until now!...

Anyway.. Not looked at the vehicle yet, but just based on what you have put so far (and the fact that it's Automatic!) prob wont go for this one, although may have a look as yet to even drive one. But determined to fulfill child hood dream!

Will post again when I have looked at it (next week), and seen if the guy wants to drop even more (Advertised at £10K!) Very keen eye by the way, currently the car is in Norwich.

Again thanks for all the feedback :D

Hi :)

AAh...it is the same car, I thought so...if so its been up for sale for a LONG LONG time....I am pretty sure that was for sale when I was the PCGBs 928 moderator and that was a couple of years ago.....and at that price I am not surprised....

IF its all ok I personally would offer him 5k MAX....

If its not ok you can plan on spending at least 2k to get everything working so I would then drop the offer to around 2k to 3k....

All the best Brett :)

Hi and welcome from me. Bit to loud for me that 928 but each to there own, I'm with Brett sure I've seen that car for sale before on various websites. As no one seems to have mentioned it, don't be put off by the auto box on the 928 it works really well on these type of cars, sourced from Mercedes I believe. If you want a manual then for £8-£10k you're getting into 928GT territory I would think. 330bhp, LSD, and the later shape to mention a few advantages 8) Available in any colour but yellow :blackeye:
