Back in July I wrote up my experience of having my S4's ignition map tuned by John Speake in this thread:

viewtopic.php?f=27&t=4814

In brief John plugs his Sharktuner 2 device into the car, and adjusts the existing ignition map so as to get snappier throttle response and extract the power which Porsche has "left on the table" (factory is a very conservative ignition map). It's a very safe procedure - John adjusts the parameters precisely to your particular car so that the adjustments won't cause any additional knocking. he blows a new chip with revised map but you keep the old one, so any time you want to go back to original it's plug & play.

Anyway I'm bringing this up again because John has now made the service available to wider 928 community at cost of £100. Involves nice drive to his place in Cambridge, then a couple of hours driving round country lanes there with John as passenger making adjustments on laptop. It's fascinating.

I've got no commercial connection with John, but was really impressed by difference it made to my car. John is the expert (globally, not just UK) on 928 injection/ignition so you couldn't have a better man doing this job. Can't think of any other £100 upgrade to a 928 which would yield better results!

If you're interested get hold of John via www.jdsporsche.com and check whether your car can be adjusted this way.

I think I am right in saying this can't be done to the earlier models?

Regards
Paul

Not if they have mechanical injection obviously, but John has break-out box so he can tune S2s and early S4 even if they don't have the diagnostic plug that is on MY88 onwards.

I'm no expert though so best check with John.

I have completed a 'Shark Tuning' session today as described previously in this thread.

The transformation in my car is quite remarkable, its an S4 auto which whilst quick and running well it did feel somewhat lazy.

Having completed a number of full/half throttle runs and John working his magic in between each one, my car feels and performs completely differently. It is now more eager, smoother and there is a significant improvement in the mid range and top end performance. It was fascinating to see how the adjustments John made translated to the gradual improvements in performance until an optimum setting was reached.

Needless to say I am looking forward to the drive home tonight!

Rob

:) I'm looking forward to getting mine back so I can have John do the same to mine, hopefully it's now looking like it won't be long before it returns. :)

My 928 is currently off the road having its brakes refurbed and then it will need an MOT.

After that - I'm straight off to John's to get mine checked.

Will book in first John as agreed.

See you soon - can't wait to see how you wake my beast up!

Steve

A final note on this from me - John mentioned that you do not notice the real difference in your car until you drive it on a 'normal' journey that you would do day in day out. I have not driven my car since driving it home after being Sharktuned and today with the sun shining seemed the ideal opportunity..........it was absolutely superb - reeling in the horizon at a huge rate of knots with seemingly very little effort, the effect of full throttle is even more pronounced.

Needless to say I am delighted!
