These 928's are so cheap, it's hard not to be tempted.

Hi Paul :)

Looks nice, drivers bolster worn of course as they have carefully avoided it in the seat pictures.... :(

I wish dealers were more honest, as if they hide one thing, it always make me wonder what else they are hiding....

Not a bad car though although a little overpriced in the current market....

All the best Brett :)

This is still for sale then! I viewed this when I was buying a 928 in August, at the time it was up at £6,000 but the seller dropped the price to £5,000.
It's a good one. It was previously owned by somebody on this forum, and has had a fortune spent on it. However the bodywork was not perfect, there was no corrosion but a fair amount of stone chips plus one front wing really needed respraying, it needed new tyres (or it did in August). The interior was good, the driver's seat bolster was not worn. The wheels could have done with refurbishing (but looks like that may have been done now) . It drove well, although the one I found drives better. The auto transmission was a bit clunky but this is almost certainly just low oil level, as the one I bought was the same.
Looking at it the seller may have done some of the bodywork as it now seems pristine.
When I saw the car it just looked unloved. However the aircon worked, and all the important jobs have been done. I think it would have been a good buy in retrospect.

The price has gone back to £6,000 but if it's had the wheels done and paintwork it will be well worth it.

That's my old bus!

The service history is all transcribed from my records/spreadsheet, so a bit odd to see it again in the ad.

Would need a close look to confirm which bodywork had been addressed, and whether wheels have been refurbed (they scrubbed up nicely when I owned her - it's actually tricky to find someone who can handle refurb of anodised wheels which is why I didn't have them done).

Galling to be reminded of all the work and new parts I fitted, and the big jobs done by Paul Anderson.

Where was original link posted from? It's out of date and the car is not on that trader's main showroom page.

I just found it on a google search. Was looking for steering raks and it came up.
I did refresh the page, so not sure why it still showed up. So it sold then?

Regards
Paul

Email them and ask! I can't as they would probably recognise my email. If it sold I would have thought that it would have appeared on this forum by now.
When I went to look at it the guy gave me the keys and let me go off on my own in it. Mind you I did leave a brand new van parked there.

I checked with the trader when it came up this morning as I was intrigued. He was more surprised than me! It's an old link coming up on the search engine, but no longer live on his site. It was sold months ago.

I wonder who bought it? They have clearly not appeared on this forum! I would have thought that most 928 owners are on here, as I would say it's almost essential if you own a 928.

I understand the car was sold to another trader, but they have genuinely used it as their personal car for past 6 months (though I tend to think the "personal car" thing is ruse for trader to escape warranty requirements when it's sold via their business!).

Actually most 928 owners are not on this or any forum!

I would guess there are about couple of dozen active posters here - please correct me if you think that's under-estimate.

The No 1 resource for UK owners is the 928uk list run by Angus Fox. It has about 400 members and is very active with up to around 20 posts a day some days depending on how 'hot' the topic is. It's mostly UK-based people but a few ex-pats too (in fact the most extraordinarily expert guy on the list is in NZ).

DVLA reported last year that there are around 1600 928s still on the road here. So maybe only 25% of owners tops are on any kind of online owner community. I know that's hard to believe from our perspective as enthusiasts, and maybe not participating makes it more expensive for those ex-forum people to run their cars but those are the numbers. Most people aren't enthusiasts, even 928 owners.

The daddy of them all is Rennlist. Quite honestly I wouldn't be able to run my 928 without help of people on Rennlist - the depth of technical knowledge is amazing and you can solve loads of problems by using its effective search function.

Of course there's a lot of overlap. I can think of people (myself included!) on all 3 communities, and loads of people on 2 out of 3.

It's interesting that the PCGB 928 forum (open to non-members) is so quiet - last post on there was over a week ago and that's actually fairly recent for that forum! That's despite the fact that there are many PCGB members who are leading lights of the 928 community so it would be unfair to accuse PCGB of bias against 928s (in fact they are formally responsible for the only two annual events specifically for 928s), and of course they run the 928 Register too.

Yes I did realise that they were selling it as a "private sale" when I went to view it....but it would be a brave man (or woman) indeed who put a warranty on a Porsche 928!
I hope the buyer is happy with it, the car just needed about £1,000 spending on the bodywork, and four new tyres. So for £6500 or so you'd have a superb 928 S4. (as they had dropped the price to £5k by the time I viewed it)
