doesnt the "intellistart" void any Thatcham Cat 1 approval?

Hi :)

Umm not quite.....

What they do is fit the G5 alarm which is a Thatcham Cat 1, and write out the Cat 1 certificate, THEN they fit the Intellistart system as an "add on"....so still Cat 1... lol

Having now used Intellistart for a while, its absolutely BRILLIANT !!!

Warms car perfectly (while its still alarmed and locked)

The Autoclose on the alarm is very good as well, I realise that most modern cars have it but I get a lot of fun watching my sunroof and windows wind up when alarm is armed lol :)

All the best Brett :)

:) Brett, out of curiousity why did you go for the 650? I want to upgrade the alarm on mine and I wasn't sure whether to go with the 650 or the Avant Guard 5.5, the thing that puts me off the 5.5. is I think the audible warning for people to move away or whatever it says sounds a bit naff, something just for the sake of it. :)

Hi :)

You can turn on or off the "proximity alarm" which makes a sort of "CHRUUURP" if anyone comes within a foot of the car....

The reason I wanted it on was where I park daily, we have some morons who think that parking 3 inches from my drivers door is acceptable....last time I had to get in passenger door and put car in neutral to push it back to get in drivers door :(

With the proximity alarm on they don`t do it anymore lol...

I am not sure if there is a difference between the 650 and 5.5... my pack says 5.5 ..

All the best Brett :)

:) The 650's advertised at about £300 fitted and the Avant Guard is about £100 more? :)

Hi :)

My AV 5.5 was £700 fitted with Intellistart etc...

Took them nearly 2 days on mine.... they were NOT very fond of the 928s electrics lol...

I seriously doubt anyone will fit either for £400....

As a matter of interest. my brothers took his 928 to H & P to have his original alarm repaired, they stripped out the old one and fitted a brand new one (same old features) that took one day and they charged him £700....as a coincidence :)

All the best Brett :)

anyone who reckons they will fit an alarm for £50 above alarm cost is going to do a shit job.

if you dont know a car, you looking at day and a half to do a proper cat 1 job.

everytime i have bought a car with a cat 1 cert, i've had it inspected and within ten minutes its failed inspection.

£700 is more on the money.

:? I got the price from here - http://www.carstereos4u.co.uk/insurance ... 96189-.php - the price in itself isn't the problem, if it costs me £700 then so be it. I was just curious as to why Brett went for one over the other, i.e. one is more suited to convertibles or such like. I don't know a whole lot about alarms, I know my Passat has got one but nobody's ever tried to nick that, unsurprising really, I just want to buy something suited to what I need. :)

Hi :)

Thats a VERY good price, although the "Intellistart" will be an extra (around £100) plus some labour to fit....

All the best Brett :)
