Thought I'd have a crack at trying to fix my heater this morning, as I've been scratching my head since i had the car as to why it would not blow cold air! I'd tried everything or at least i thought i had. Checking the heater control valve just behind the engine etc and then i checked the motor under the dash in the passenger foot well was actually doing anything (i had checked it before but i guess i saw the rocking back and forth motion i assumed that it wasn't jammed or anything and moved on).
Then i noticed tucked away hidden out of view was a rob with a screw thread on the end was dangling down from somewhere, then at the same time saw there was a white clip on the end of the rocking lever that has snapped. put 2 and 2 together and hey presto i found the problem! i bodged it together with a sturdy cable tie and it all works dandy now. finally i can drive the '44 without having to have the windows and roof open
Here's a pic:

Does anyone know where i can source a new "white clip"???
not that i don't trust my sturdy cable tie..

cheers!

Lo m8ee , congrats you have just joined that very non elite group ( which I'm in too) , the broken clip possie

The white clip should also have a metal clamp accross it like a miniture bulldog clip that clamps it on, but yours may have dropped off ages ago. From your Local Official Porsche dealer you can get a pack of 3 clips , and a pack of 3 metal clamps
( though he may sell you one if he's nice) I paid £3.21 inc delivery and posted here how impressed I was.

If the parts man isnt used to 944's he may not find it as a clip because Porsche call the white thing a ' bearing' which I suppose strictly speeking it is but to me you and the whole world it's a clip :bom:

Best of Luck Mas

If you attend the drag meet, you can gain another merit badge and can also try for an award.

A great photograph for people to refer to in the future. I had to follow Jim's (TR7V8) very good written directions and fixed it with a ty-wrap.

£3 from Porsche Shop? Or £3 from OPC Porsche? I ask because it is always worth asking at OPC Porsche first - others on here seem to pay £1 from OPC.

I have just bought some spares from OPC Porsche. The bush I wanted was £3 - the same thing from Porsche Shop was £9. The bonnet release backing plate that is regularly advertised on Ebay at £10 was only £3 from OPC. (prices are to nearest £).

Just for future reference.

Quite common John, lots of bits are more expensive on either E Bay or the indies, especially on E Bay! Always worth phoning an OPC first. Tonbridge & Exeter are more than happy to post out as well, often for no cost.

Considering you are a Midlandser Scott, I tend to use PCT (Autobahn) in Coventry, EMC Motorsport in Saltely, Birmingham, or OPC Solihull. The latter two seem to be quite competitive on many things but PCT have come up trumps on a couple of things (£52 for a full service kit (Genuine Porsche Oil filter, with Mahle Knecht Oil and fuel filter and Spark plugs and sump washer thrown into the deal compared to Porsche's £62 on a full service kit (all genuine obviously) bar spark plugs).

It's December for crying out loud! What's the plan for summer? Fixing the heating, sealing your windows and fleecy seat covers

 my cars off the road at the moment, while i work on a few bits and pieces it isn't worth taxing etc till the summer, its just good to know that come summer i can drive with the windows open!!

I'll bare those shops in mind guys, looks like i could have saved a few penny's if I'd have known them earlier! Damn.

As another member of this very non-elite group the best way I found to do the job was to remove the glove-box liner (4 screws). My local OPC supplied the clip free. Easiest and cheapest job I've done.
