Hi Sean,

I am planning to allocate standing 1/4 times to all cars so we could group together cars within a second of each other. Anyone wishing to race against a friend is ok too. Then could have a shoot out at the end for the fastest cars.

At the last meet at York a new 911 Turbo was beat by a LAND ROVER (it was not standard) but the shame!

Already spoke to 928Uk and Porschefans and got some names.
For our site I am going to put together something like:

The event is held on xxxxxxx and is open to all Porsches from any club or group.

Please add your estimated target 1/4 mile time in brackets so we can try to group you with a car of similar performance.
If you do not know them and your car is unmodified we will base this on Porsches own claimed standing quarter for your car. Modified cars we do some research and get back to you. For an older cars this is really hard to match. However should you wish to race against friends we will TRY to accomodate you.

Trophies will given for XXXXXX

Entrants (examples)

Name Year Model (Target) Factory

Stephen Taylor 95 928 GTS auto (14) 13.7
Paul Taylor 88 944 Turbo S man (14) 13.5
1000 ponies Brett 86 928 s2 auto (12) 15.3

Hi Stephen :)

Added my S2 factory time to yours above.....

I doubt I will run a 12 as mine is set for top speed but I can try...is there a prize for longest burnout lol (like the whole quarter)

All the best Brett :)

Hi Brett,

Fit some smaller rear wheels (lower profile)?
I had Dolomite Sprint that was supposed to have 185/70 13 tyres.
Fitted with 185/60 13's it could accelerate like a bat from hell.
You are our star player.

Good suggestion about the prize for the burnout.
Thanks for adding the S2 time.
I have a number of people from 928uk interested too.

Stephen

Hi Stephen :)

If I put on smaller wheels the rears would never stop spinning lol....

I am going to have to set my Race controller for the Nitrous to some extremely low start settings to run a quarter with the big increases once I have traction...hopefully..

Let me know if you want me to donate a trophy or prize or two, once you have decided on classes etc.....

All the best Brett :)

I had to trickle off the line when I drove the GF's 86 928 s2 at the Pod.
First run I hammered it and got wheelspin for the full quarter and that was a standard car.
Classes could be best watercooled, best air cooled, places, modern, classic, by BHP catagories, modified, standard?
Certainly we want fastest Porsche of the day
Sean has offered some trophys too and I have some spares I could put in.
We can't do by model until we get a better list of entrants.
Some people might not have the stones to even turn up.

Stephen

Hi Stephen :)

By the way, If its on a RWYB day...

The Pods rules for anyone who doesn't know are as follows....

No helmet required UNLESS the car will have a terminal speed of over 100 mph and they are VERY strict on that 100 mph....any entrant will get away with it ONCE ONLY!

Personally I wear a full Nomex suit, underwear etc as its a LOT safer if you have them...so if you have a helmet wear it !

Arms MUST be covered , so no T`Shirts....

Driving licence to sign on...plus money...

The start line marshals CAN order you off the track for an unsafe car although there is usually no scrutineering on a RWYB day, things likely to get you kicked off the line are, bad oil leaks, coolant leaks , PASSENGERS IN CAR, etc etc.....

They are nice guys though and for anyone who has not run a 1/4 before they will wave you forward and back to get into pre-stage or stage and are normally very helpful :)

One final tip, first timers always assume dropping the pressure on the rear tyres will help grip and launch, its only true to a small extent...i.e. by all means drop pressures by say 6 to 10 lbs MAX.... drop them too low and you can easily spin a tyre off your rim on a hard launch, particularly if there is a lot of rubber from Top Fuel cars from a previous day....if your tyres look too low in pressure and are not drag slicks again the marshals WILL order you off the line.....

Hope this helps :)

All the best Brett :)

Hi Brett,

Still the same rules as 10 years ago.
I was amazed then as my local strip (York) require all participents wear a Helmet and scrutineer all RWYB cars.

I think your point is that we make people aware of Santa Pod rules and produce a check list.

Everyone must wear long sleeves.
No liquid leaks on the car.
No passengers on the strip,
All participants bring a driving licence (someone always forgets theirs)
We recommend that drivers of any model with a standing quarter time of 14.5 or so bring a helmet.

(That should cover all the cars capable of getting an elapsed time of 100 mph)
Do not assume you can borrow a helmet as busy days the tracks helmets are all signed out.
If you own or can borrow flameproof clothing (Nomex or similar) in the intersts of your own safety please wear it.
Also in the interests of safety remove all unsecured (loose) items from inside your car.

Can you think of any others?

Stephen

I hope it will be a great oppertunity to meet too.
Especialy if we can get people like 928 guru Paul Anderson there and Jon Mitchell (JMG).
Chris Kenwood may take his new 996 Turbo too.

Live and breathe the Marque,
Stephen

Looks like serious fun. But would have to be a stop over & could be expensive for some. Will you need a competition license or just turn up and register? :D

Hi :)

You turn up. pay to get in the Pod.... then all you need is a normal FULL licence (not competition) to run....

All the best Brett :)

Hi Stephen :)

Maybe you should have a "Pro" class for all those big bad tuners , like ProMax, JMG etc, plus anyone who races 928s like Paul Anderson and Adrian Clarke...and maybe just one ordinary 928 owner to liven it up like me...so as a ordinary guy I could lay down a time that they can all beat easily :)

All the best Brett :)

Hi Brett,

You mean something like:
Seriously modified class? (Nitro/Large bore/Wastegates etc)
Sightly modified class (chips/exhausts)
Standard (K&Ns/Pipercross acceptable)

PS
Already had a couple of Silver Rose owners from France who have said they would come.

Live and breathe the Marque,
Stephen

DOH
I missed an obvious prize.

I was reminded by the fact that overseas participants are intending coming.
GREATEST DISTANCE TRAVELLED (to get to the event - maybe a UK prize and a European prize)
The Euro 928 events always have that.

WAR OF THE ROSES (944 Turbo S)

Hi Guys,

So far we have only 928, 944 and a single 911 participating.
Where are the other models.
Surely we don't have that many members in the club who are just 'posers'?

Regards,
Stephen

Hi :)

Want to bet lol....

Its like those Pistonhead guys, very good at taking the michael out of my car and dashboard particularly as i cannot respond...

Buy you will not see them putting their fancy 911`s against mine or any other 928...too embarrassing to them if they lose....

All the best Brett :)
