Hi Guys

Looking for some advice. All 4 shockers on my 1990 250bhp turbo are rather past their best. They look like the original ones, black with a 951 part number I think.

Am I best replacing them (if yes, what with) or can they be refurbed, or does anyone happen to be sitting with some good ones they would like to sell?

Thanks in advance

Stuart

Hi. Do you know if you have M030 type suspension, i belive this could be rebuilt. However, if you dont have the M030 suspension option, then it may well be worth replacing with either new standard (cheaper)or adjustable (damping force, ride height, (on front any way) bit more expensive) type dampers/shocks from the likes of Koni, Spax or KW.
If you go for adjustables it shoud be advised thar the rear torsion bars will need adjusting for the new ride height.

Matt.

M030 uses yellow Bilstien suspenion shocks.
Black ones are made by Boge - you can get replacements for quite cheap from Eurocarparts.

M030 - Koni, as Matt says can be rebuilt by Sportsline suspension Brackley.

Give idea of replacement costs, JMG list there 9xx Koni MO30 fully adjustable front suspension at £795. Rear 9xx Koni adjustable at £350. Thats including fitting or they do mail order prices. As you have an SE most I've seen had the MO30 option :bounce:

It has M030 (says in the book and the sticker on car) but the shocks are black?

Confused!

Does it have a thread to adjust the height of the springs on the front struts(behind the wheel) and can you adjust them from under the bonnet?

Can't adjust them from under the bonnet. Don't know about behind the wheel, not looked!

All the shocks were red Stuart! I think the front were Sachs as there is a part label on them, started with a 951. Will look tomorrow and see.

Are M030 struts any different in shape to standard turbo struts? ie. Can I put in standard turbo shocks or will they not fit due to the bigger discs, callipers etc. ?

There is a guy on e-bay selling refurbed Koni's requiring inserts to complete. He states "Not M030" on his ad.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PORSCHE-944-S2-944S2-968-FRONT-STRUTS-FOR-KONI-INSERTS_W0QQitemZ280425379490QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item414aa7b6a2

Would these go on my car?

Stuart

The M030s are different to other shocks.

The ebay kit will allow you to go to a 'normal' shock type, but you'll lose the M030 suspension struts if you have them installed. If you don't have M030s on there, then it won't be any different and will fit.

Thanks for thr input guys, problem is now solved! Just been on to GAZ and they are going to supply me 4 complete adjustable struts along with new front springs and brackets for less then OPC wanted for one front unit (which incidentally was £540). They come with a 2 year warranty and can be refurbed by GAZ when required. I am quite excited about this now! :)

Together with my new clutch which is currently being installed my ride should be remarkably transformed for the better. Can't wait to drive it!

Stuart

Hi Stuart,

Glad to hear you found a solution. I would really appreciate some info on the kit you're buying - part numbers, product description, that kind of thing...?? If you don't know, could you let me know the contact (name/tel no) at Gaz as I'm quite interested in this way forward.

Thanks in advance

Paul

Hi Paul, I don't have any part no.s but the guy at GAZ is called David.

All I know is that I am getting 4 complete struts, which are ride height and damping rate adjustable, 2 x 300lb front springs and the brackets I need to get it fitted.

Will let you know how I get on when it's all fitted.

Stuart
