The book says for a 3.0

20nm
plus 60 degrees
plus 90 degrees

Any body know any other figures or updates the 2.5 was 20nm plus 90 plus 90

Is there just one gasket for the 3.0?

I ask as I have problems....a combustion leak, had the head off and checked, all OK. Got to get a straight edge on the block face now. Runs like a train, lots of power, very slight leak pressurising the cooling system. Had two heads on it now, gaskets at £100 its hurting. Any ideas?

Yup my book of words says the same.

Cometic gaskets can be used 3 times. There £90 (I think.) from promax & theres a shop on ebay. Monkfish performance I think. They are made in the states. They are better at sealing if somthing isn't quite right. Make sure the block is scraped clean & be careful. If the heads checked ok (Did they clock it or just use a straight edge?) Or did they not bother at all. Be warned one machine shop skimed the face of my head but said the top was fine. It wasn't & it's cost me another head to fix it. (Not S2) Clocking a head true might take 5 minutes but could take 20. It costs.
edit you should use new nuts & washers.

Thanks for that, this ones got a few folk scrathing their head and no one has thought of those things yet. Ill try a cometic gasket this time, it would seem the block may be out of true, but I dont know how it could of happened, the car suffered a chain snap at 80MPH, but only bent 6 valves. One of the water ways on number one is very close to the fire ring on the gasket. Both the dowels are present, so I dont think the gasket is moving during assembly and the leak is only very slight. I have had it pressure tested to 15lb no problem and also vacume tested to a huge vacume to find a leak and it leaks right at the top of the test. I have also confirmed there is a slight combustion leak with a chemical test that sniffs the coolant.

Check the skimmed head doesn't mean that the head bolts are at the point of bottoming out. BTDTGTTS&TV
This could cause the head to lift fractionally under combustion pressure.
A year or so ago (maybe Porsch-Net1?) we had a guy in Kent who had an S2 Cab that went through this saga & it turned out the block was cracked He couldn't afford to sort it & it was still at the garage last time I was.

Cannot think of anything else at the mo....

Thanks Jim, Whatever it is Ive got to know, I wont be beaten by this car, thing is it drives so well and I like it. Ill try and search for that thread. Ive had a look down the bores but cant see any damage to the coating, the car is 79000 miles and was looked after before so no corosion in the water ways. I will check the bolts. Sorry what does BTDTGTTS&TV mean?

Years ago went through this on a car. Had the head skimmed after HGF & reassembled to find it pressurised worse than ever. Eventually clocked the head thickness & then the penny dropped! The nuts on the studs were bottoming out on the thread just as it tightened Slightly thicker washers fixed it, but it cost 3 head sets & many hours of bu99ering around before we found it. I've known on bolted systems people either stripping threads in the block or cracking the block when the bolts bottom out.

Ahh with you now, I like it. Just finding out about a cometic gasket. Will get the head and block clocked. Will post the update.

Cometic gaskets come in different thicknesses if that is your problem. Linsey racing sell them. http://www.lindseyracing.com/LR/Parts/COMETIC.html Might be cheaper than Promax. The 40 thou ones are £90 but the 60 thou ones are 5 layer & more money. I ordered the cambox one & its keeping my car on the road until all the parts come to fit my new head.
But if thats not it then it may be a cracked block as Jim says.
