hi all
fitted my cd player already wired up with an iso plug...so straight swop...connected it and the sound was crap... checked the front speakers and they were new...only had speakers in the front...so i thought put some in the back.....took the panels off and there was speaker cables already there...bonus connected them up no sound took the head unit out and could not trace the wires back...so i went direct from the speakers to the head unit....now the fun started..first thing i saw was tooked away was telephone cables....traced these and they were wired to the front speakers...that would be the reason for the crap sound...all the live wires were striped and the cd wires twisted around no insulation..( but they all had female connecters ...so why not put a male connecter on and connect them together..as i have done..) still all done now..still begs the question what would have happend if a live wire touched an earth....we all know the answer..pouring down with rain middle of no were car comes to a stop and you can't get it started or you have no lights...you get what i mean.. the moral of the story if you do any job and somethink as been alterd check it out....

When I pulled the headunit out of my car I was greeted by an almighty spark.

I swiftly disconnected the battery before I pulled any further. Everything was taped together and there was an amp in the boot (not connected to anything) which had it's main power coming from the ignition switch rather than straight from the battery.

I have insulated all the connectors for now and removed the stereo until I get a new one and completely removed the amp and remnants of an old phone kit. It does make me wonder how the electrics have survived.
