Has anyone seen this post on Pistonheads

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/to ... nmt=300bhp, 350lbs feet torque 944 3 litre turbo

The car sounds like it goes like a rocket, I am wondering how much something like this costs and how reliable it will be in day to day use

:director: Calling Paul! 300BHP is quite tame, Pauls is more than that.

Recent PCGB meet at Porscheshop opened my eyes a bit.

A few guys i meet were running what looked like standard 944 turbos, but after speaking to them, 360bhp and 450bhp were mentioned.

PSH and MarkK on PCGB have some serious machines.

It sounds like the modification was completed at Hartech.
They would have taken a conservative approach for obtain long longevity and reliability.
It'll be fast, have bags of Torque and last forever.

Read the older news items from 2007 down the page.

They're building a 2.8 at the moment.

Andy

Did you see the JMG article about the cabby?
On the 7th of March 2008 JMG recorded what is thought to be the UK's highest verified BHP (Break horse Power) and Torque figure from a 944 Turbo with a standard engine. 417.5 BHP from a 944 Turbo with a standard (other than uprated head gasket) engine with approaching 100,000 miles on it! The car then proceeded to drive to Athens and back without issue.... 417.5 reliable horsepower from a 2.5 standard engine and its a cabriolet!

WOW

Did someone call?

I'm not sure if it's supposed to be secret (but I am very loose lipped anyway  ), I'm actually having a test of the Hartech 3 litre car on track next week :bounce:

It looks like Barry has achieved a very economical and extremely powerful conversion which supposedly has very gentle road manners, but a killer amount of low down torque when you open it up. I'll let you know how it goes (coz I'm a big show off like that  )

Mine does have more power and a heck of a lot more torque even lower down in the rev range, but it has far more bells and whistles bolted on and it probably cost three times more than Barry will charge just for the engine. He says he actually has plenty of blocks and parts to make more of these but he didn't think there was a market as most people bolt on bigger Turbos and 'electronickery'

Whats it cost? Up until now I believe that a 2.8l+ engine would cost about £11,000...

Paul,

I'd be very interested in results of your test drive and if what I thought was true?
Take some photos for the magazine.

Regards,
Stephen

I love the statement there 400 bhp from a "standard 2.5 engine " , I take I you mean standard displacement not " standard " :bigsmurf: .

Joking aside , on the subject of tuning/tweeking etc , I was a little dismayed when I was at a well known home counties specialist with my 1st 944 Turbo a month ago and I mentioned that I couldnt decide if Porsche 2 would be a 944S2 / 968 or another Turbo. I said I was concerned I wouldnt really be able to do much performance wise to a 944 S2 but could to a turbo to which the well known mechanic/director in question said to me

" Oh yes you can but these people all blow them up doing that " , suggesting me toward an S2

What a great advert for your services and the tuned up one you have for sale I thought , why would he say that . Made me think a bit though as I was confident even with my small ammount of 944 knowledge that a 300 bhp 944 would be far from pushing the bar so to speek and 220 is positively ' under tuned '.

regards Mas

Only John Mitchell can answer that one.
I would like the bit about standard apart from the head gasket clarified too.

I had a go in that Cab too, it was positively evil  gorgeous in black, with black centred BBS 17" alloys. I was told the engine itself was totally standard, except that it had a super duper uprated head gasket and it made its power due to a big turbo, Vitesse MAF, HUUUGE exhaust and about 1.5 bar of boost!!!!!!

It actually drove much like a normal 2.5 up until about 4500rpm at which point it got very silly

..........if you like that sort of thing
