After the glass hatch on my 944 refused to stay shut, I thought it was about time to replace the rear locking pins. Got them from the Porscheshop with a 10% T.I.P.E.C. members discount for £31.30 including v.a.t.

Not a hard job to do, the nuts and bolts on mine were not seized & undid quite easily. The only problem with these kits is the bolts are longer than the originals and will not do up all the way, so I reused the originals. Not much good if the originals on yours are f*ck*d though, eh?

The boot stays shut with a nice thud now.

I've had to post this pic' in another post because we're only aloud to post 3 attachments per post. So here's the pic' of the difference between the lenght of the bolts.

Umm, I think I'd rather use the original bolts, Jim.

Ah, but your original bolts are not nice and shiney like the new ones though.

Is it the Rear Hatch Pin Kit and do you order 2??? sorry in newbie muppet mode!

Maybe a little bit longer than 10mins, but it was quite straight forward. Might be a good idea to spray the old ones with WD40 now. They should be easy to remove by the time you come to do the job.

Mine wouldnt open without the key so I put two new struts on which made it open about 8 times out of ten.Should have left it at that but I wanted it spot on so got the same pin kit from Porsche Apart ,fitted them and now it wont open without the key.Back to square one and about £75 lighter.Brilliant! Ive tried adjusting them every which way but no good.I think now that I need to replace the latches into which the pins fit. You're lucky those bolts came out so you could find that the replacements were too long. The one I did they were siezed in solid. We just changed the pins in the end.

I sprayed them with WD40 about a month ago, knowing that I was gonna have to replace them pretty soon. (The one pin had already started to come unlatched over very bumpy roads).

I think when the rubber around the tailgate gets wet, it acts like a suction cup and sticks the rubber slightly to the body, so sometime it doesn't open on it's own when the buttons pressed. It's not one of Porsche's better designs.

Yes I had the missus stand at the back and just apply slight upward pressure to the spoiler as I pressed the button and it opens like that so its not far off and there were some marks where the paint had been rubbed off over the years which would suggest that the rubber had been sticking to the rear panel.Ill get back to Porsch_Apart and see if its a common thing. I need at least one new bolt anyway as ive tightened and slackened them so many times ive worn the head off it!
