Been under some pressure to sell the '44 & buy a sensible family car. Like a Fiat Panda Deasel that another family member has & keeps banging on about how it does 75mpg & costs nothing to tax. 22K miles & 18mths the engine went bang  I mean it's totalled. Engine oil blows out the exhaust. It's been sitting dead for a month now as Fiat have not ok'd the repair yet. (Theres 2 more just like it parked at the dealers!!!) Think I will stick with the Porsche for now!

Sounds like turbo failure to me. Mrs TR7V8s Toyota Corolla D4D had a turbo failure at 45K, so much for Toyota reliability. Hers started after a dealer had the gearbox out to repair. I still reckon they fired it all up with no oil feed on the turbo!
Had a whole list of problems & she now has a Vauxhall Astra 1.3TDi

Priced up the bits for the head job. £500 for the pump & gasktets. With the belts & rollers. Front end reseal etc. Then you add the £300 for the new head & cam box from Porscheapart. Then another £600 to have it rebuilt & gas flowed. (Glad it's not a 16v) This is getting expensive. This is just the parts. When it's all done just the gearbox & diff to rebuild. No wonder it's so hard to buy a decent 944 second hand.
