I'm told that a clogged oil breather tube from the fuel injection system to the engine could cause pressure to produce oil coming out of the dipstick of a 924.

Does anyone know where this tube is - all tubes look the same to me and I can't see anything going from top to bottom of the metal lump under the bonnet.

Hi there. The breather pipe goes from roughly where the clutch cable mounting is to the underneath of the hard plastic tube of the inlet, or to the air filter box (very rarely) depending on if its early or late model '24. ( I assume you're talking about 2.0l N/A?)
New one costs about £35 from OPC and can be a bit of a struggle to fit on engine end.

I like also here to sort some scurrilous suggestions spread by Brett about my mechanical skills.

First, I easily got the top of the tube off. Then I know enough about cars to realise the oil coming out was too thin and soon realised it was brake fluid. Mind you, I don't undertand why any Porsche braking sytem should need that large round thing like a magazine for an old gangsters machine gun. Anyway I have now located the oil breather tube, which like the other tube, is round, so it was an easy mistake to make. It looks quite clean and shiny, so I'm wondering whether the fault lies elsewhere, perhaps a faulty dipstick tube.

You need to make it VERY simple.....

Like.....Go to the pointy end of the car as thats where the engine is....etc...etc...

Not casting aspersions on Rolands mechanical skills, ...but.....

I've found over 16 years ownership that ultimately I'm the only one I can really trust with my car!! I haven't made any of the mistakes like the main dealers do, although I think petrol rather than a head gasket may have been an easier solution once, and you're trying to get me to put a new engine in!!
