The S4 is priced for an exceptional example, whereas this looks like an average 4-5K car with no real justification for the minimum £2K extra being asked. I'm not overly impressed by having all the MOTs! Would be much more interested in recent bills. Only real warning bell though is that the owner has not replaced the very cheap plastic cover and post cover which protects the crucial jump post and terminal at front left of engine bay. If water is allowed onto unprotected connector here it can cause no end of weird electrical problems.

What really impresses about the S is that the owner is sufficiently enthusiastic to join a club and to turn up to events (Blenheim). Sign of keen, conscientious owner so not surprised he's lavished money on it (though sounds like he's paid inflated prices - OPC?). He's asking an awful lot for an S but it looks like a very, very nice one. If it's as described then personally I see it as something of a bargain at that price, provided there are no big immediate bills lurking. Wonder when engine mounts were last changed?

Anyway drive both as proof is in the pudding. Don't get too hung up on things like rear end styling as you're not spoilt for choice as far as decent 928s go! You should drive lots anyway to give you a feel for good and bad 'uns.

Keep us posted after friday viewings.

Adrian

I don't know the black S4 but looks like a very honest and well-cared for example and similar to the 88 analogue dash I ran. The price is sensible unlike the 7K one! I think owner has completely forgotten to put his details but I get them for you if you like.

Note presence of cover on jump post (he pointed out pedantically).

Also strange that I had to log into site to see this car. maybe the ad is not yet live?

I see what you mean, hadn't noticed on the 7k car, will be taking the book from D Hemmings as well as the 928.org checklist.

Don't forget to budget a couple of thousand for "initial maintenance"! My newly purchased 928 S4 (£5,000) came with all the right things.....recent cam belt and full service, superb bodywork, huge history, 12 months MOT with no advisories, all electrics working including aircon etc etc.
Already I've spent £1,200 and I've only had it a month! Plus it still needs at least 2 tyres (due to age rather than wear) and probably engine mountings eventually....and the aircon has packed up.

Have a read of my posts on this forum!

Hi, I like the look of the S (but then I would!) and seems like a good price for what appears to be a well maintained car. Good luck with your search. Cheers RT :D

I understand from the webmaster that it sold in June and was a very nice example.

Hey Howard, what did you think of the two 928s you viewed last friday?

Only managed to see the guards red one. Very nice car, with good complete history.......but it just didn't "float my boat". Perhaps,.... no definately I am a fussy guy when it comes to cars and this one just wasn't for me. The other car maybe a possibility but after talking with the seller I don't think we are in the same "ball park" when it comes down to price.

I am hoping to make the meeting at Tilford this Saturday. What time does it start approx. and how long does it go on for?

Looing forward to meeting everyone.

Howard

Tilford starts round 11am and in past most cars have left by 4pm. No formal proceedings though (928 owners remember -like herding cats) so turn up whenever and stay for as short or long a time as you like.

There's only one formality which is 928 only parking on the village green.
