Lo all, I decided to get under the steering wheel and look for the plastic 'clip etc' for the common fault described, lord its a good job im not too 'large' , it nearly breaks your back getting in there.

Anyway had a look round and found two thin black wires with the little plug on tags on them with nothing attached hanging down ?
I also saw just hanging there , the end of a flexi pipe the ribbed ones that look like the water extraction pipe on the back of a washing machine if youve ever seen one but a bit thinner in diameter.

I looked about for a bit then saw a hole where it seemed it might go so I pushed it in then started the car and waited for the engine to heat up and guess what ! , no more hot air only.

Ive looked on the Clarkes HVAC guide but cant see this pipe specifically and I'd love to know what it is if anyone can tell me.

Also now if I push the aircon switch , the yellow light comes on and you here a change in the airflow etc so electrically the aircon must be doing something , however the yellow light only stays on if you hold that switch down. Im very pleased not to have a greenhouse for a car anymore even though its not aircon as such.

All in all I have just at least partially fixed my first ever Porsche fault , probably at the top of my technical ability that one !

Regards Mas

Well done in sorting your first problem, I know what you mean about space under the wheel, you need to employ a midget to get anything done down there.

Not sure what the pipe is you describe as I am not fortunate (or pehaps I am) enough to have AC in my S2. My heater did similar to yours (heat all the time) and it was the heater control valve in the engine bay not closing fully when called to do so, I replaced with a good 2nd hand one and it works fine now.

Once again Well Done!

Mine's the opposite problem. Drove to work and found I had no hot air from the cabin blowers. Might be easier to fix as it's not got air conditioning.
Another job on my ever extending list!

Hi Ya im new!!
I have a simular issue, its realy strange when i switch over to cold in the summer its takes ages to cool down ( Random) and in the winter its fine.

I think I may need a new valve.

I love spending money on my lady... she always seems to run better every time I do something for her...Ahhh :D

Suspect it is the recirculation button.

Well according to the excellent Clarkes garage website and its page on heating problems
( which I found thanks to this forum) it is the A/C switch , perhaps you could tell me how that stands for recirculation. In my newbie ignorance I assumed A/C stood for aircon as it normally does. ??

As in this diagram of a Porsche dashboard ( number 28)

Apologies I was not intending to give offense, rather answering what I thought was a question "what's one of those then?" as those of us who do not have AirCon have a Recirc button located in that position which when pressed illuminates the switch with a yellow lamp.

Very dry if your aircon keeps working.

My 'question' was supposed to be a funny, seeing as hardly anybody has aircon in their 944 - except for the posh people.

On my 968 the blowers always warm your feet, or cool them depending if its on hot or cold. Anyway it doesnt matter which way you slide the switches air still comes out the foot wells.
Its not the end of the world but just wondering what the prob could be?

My 944 is certainly not posh , though I suppose I 'could' be a posh bloke in a cheep old 944 ! , on a serious note the pipe pushing in may have changed my cars aircon/heater but it certainly hasnt cured it. Oh and the pipe appears to go to the area above the right hand side of the glove box , just behind a little round vent in the dash next to the cigarette lighter air temp sensor maybe , I cant find it labelled on the web anywhere so a total guess

Having driven the car properly and allowed it to heat up properly , it may take longer to blow out hot air than it did but it sure still does turn hot
so well done for fixing it not.

I'm now looking for the famous broken clip but I cant see it. I have the clarkes garage manual picture but you'll see it doesnt really show it you the clip and rod in situe in car.

Can anyone who had done or seen the clip and rod guide me to exactly where it is on a right hand drive car so I can break my back one more time under there ?

Regards Mas

Pull the fuse for the glovebox light, remove the glovebox inner liner and you'll see it on the side of the heater box towards the centre of the car.

On 968s the lower flap motor which controls the air flow to your footwells seems to get filled with water and seizes up. Mine had done this and so I dismantled, cleaned and lubricated it and it still works.
