Another question i'm afraid. Assuming I buy a 944 Turbo , am I right in thnking it is going to be 400 plus for a cam/tensioner change AND 300 plus for a mid service. The belt change seems very expensive yet seems to be an almost immediate thing to do on getting a 944 turbo.

This is of course unless you have it documented as having been recently done in which case you'll be paying extra anyway.

Dont get me wrong ,I have no intention of skipping the belt change I'm just suprised that something you HAVE to have as a service item is so dear in itself.

I dont think its even worth asking who does it for a reasonable fee as all the workshops recommmended by you guys seem to charge roughly the same to do it :)

Regards Mas

The belts are relatively cheap, around 60 quid or so, the bits that add up are tensioners, idlers, seals & top hats if needed & a water pump. All of which mount up. Unfortunately it is one of those things that you only know about when youor the specialist starts the investigation.
As for a service it shouldn't be too much. A 12K is plugs, oil & filter & maybe air filter & possibly a fuel filter if it hasn't been done recently.
Why not give some of it a try yourself?

sorry for the late reply, but when i first got my 944s2 the first thing i checked was if the belts and tensioners had been changed, although they had i still had them changed just to be safe ,i also discovered that you should also have the twin cam chain changed and this not mentioned anywere in the porsche service manual, this does not apply to the turbo, when you think of the cost should a belt let go it looks like economic sense!!
i am fortunate that i have guy who has serviced all my cars and he lets me source the parts at the best prices and just charges labour at resonable rate.ps make sure you go back for the belt check after the required mileage has been covered.

Am I reading this right, surely Porscheshop dont do the belt replacement for £265 inc vat when others charge 400 plus ? . If Porscheshop are a well respected garage and I understand they are then this seems strange.

265 will be a basic belt change, no new idlers, tensioners, seals, top hats etc.
