Post by GTH911 »

When changing the gearbox oil do you use a new drain plug or use the old one? also do you use some sort of ptfe tape of thread compound?

Thanks

What grade of oil do you guys recommend using? I was going to go for SA 75W90, but some think it is too thin for the 'box.

Most of use the relevant Swepco from Berlyn for the box, expensive but improves the shift reduces the noise.
Otherwise I'd use a good synthetic oil of the same grade, thicker will destroy the gearchange quality.

Youll need 2.5 litres. Some manuals incorrectly stated 2 litres, which wont be sufficient.

I,ve just done it, read Clarkes garage, he is spot on. I used a funnel , 3 foot of garden hose attatched to the funnel and filled it up till it came out of the plug, around 3 litres of SWEPCO at £50 . It has improved the shift into 3rd which was notchy. Easy job

Simples! It made a vast difference to the change on mine, if someone had told me it was a different box I could've quite believed them!.
