A warm welcome was extended to new faces (well, new to me) – Tom & Kerry Fisher and Steve & Sharon Jory. They join us from PCGB and hopefully we’ve not put them off!! Welcome.
Since Previous Meeting:
24th – 26th July (Fri-Sun) – Silverstone Classic. Infield parking at the Silverstone Racing Circuit (home of F1, for now) complete with some classic car racing. Unfortunately I cannot comment as I was on me jollies, but in the past this has been a well attended and very successful event. I’m sure those who attended would have had a great time. 11th August (Tuesday) - Car/Bike lovers day. This is now so successful that due to the weather, there was a half hour queue into the car park. Very, very well attended with many cars and bikes. For those who want a quieter event, try Bosworth Classics on the last Tuesday.
Future Events:
• 23rd August (Sunday) – Arbury Hall. A Transtar event, which (as I’m writing this after it) was attended by some 15 TIPEC Porsches. Not bad weather either – just nice to chill out and mix with like-minded people.
• 25th August (Tuesday) – Bosworth Classics. More cars this time as it gains in popularity. The weather helped, I’m sure! • 30th – 31st August (Sun/Mon) – Oxfordshire Classics, Blenheim Palace. This featured some 500 vehicles, all pre-94 with Blenheim as a backdrop. Free entry to the gardens, and discounted entry to the palace (£7.50 instead of £17.50) made this a worthwhile trip.
• 3rd September (Thursday) – Panamera Launch, OPC Nottingham. Those who have traded should (may?) have received an e-mail invite. I shall be attending this just so as I can dribble on some brand new Pork. This is the official pre-launch at OPC’s Nottingham and Leicester prior to it going on sale on 12th September. • 5th - 6th September (Sat/Sun) – VSCC See Red, Donington Park. Pay on the gate (£12). This is being organised by SYNN and they have arranged infield parking just outside the paddock gates. The classic car racing can be seen close-up too, and is excellent viewing, as well the fact that Sir Stirling Moss is racing on the Saturday! • 8th September (Tuesday) – Ashby Folville. One of the last ones in the season, and depending on weather should be well attended. Just turn up, and pay £1 to display alongside other eager petrol-heads. • 15th September (Tuesday) – Club Night. • 29th September (Tuesday) – Bosworth Classics. An alternative and much quieter affair than Ashby Folville. Nice setting. Last one in their calendar and a very nice setting with things to do for all. • 2nd – 4th October (Fri-Sun) – WOTY, Wales. See you there.
AOB.
After the formalities, we had a quiz which was won by me……errrm, no sorry, no it wasn’t – it was won by Eric. No prizes, just the knowledge of knowing you’re better than everyone else. Oh well, better luck next time.
The WOTY is unfortunately fully booked – such is its popularity. For those who have missed out this year, then there’s always next year and we’ll tell you what you missed. If anyone does cancel in the meantime, I’ll keep you posted about availability. We will book a hotel with more availability next year.
The Christmas social this year will be held on Saturday 5th December at the Field Head Hotel. It’s early days yet (sorry!), but the price will be on a par with last year (£13.95, 2 courses / £15.95, 3 courses) and there will be a resident disco. Please let me know, and let me have a £5 deposit to secure your place. I will need to know choices of meals too but will get these at a later stage. An idea of numbers would be appreciated.
Another reminder for Classic Le Mans next year. The dates are 9th – 11th July 2010. There were 200 places available, and at last count the were not much more than a dozen or so left. There is no need to part with money at this stage, but if you are interested, then I can only advise pre-booking it soon.
