Chassis number is WP0ZZZ92ZFS841572 - Looking on google it looks like the 'F' makes it an 85? - Must have been close to being a 86. Maybe it was sat in a showroom somewhere.

Thanks Guys,

I tried to get a battery when I was out today, but no luck. Even tried Porsche themselves but a three day wait.
I have only just got in from work anyway so couldn't have done anything tonight anyway.
I have ordered a Varta battery that I am picking up tomorrow morning when I get my Jeep MOT'd. They tell me its all singing and dancing so hope its ok.

On the year of the car I cant get into the engine yet. In fact have not even seen it. Its been wedged in my small garage since last night and I cant get inside to pop the bonnet. Going to wait until I have fitted the battery and can move the car out if it will start. I hope there is an engine in there!

Would be great if its an 86, but not holding breath. I suspect not as I did see the empty battery hole and from memory it was bigger than 12", but we will see.

Thanks again for the help!
Regards
Paul

Hi Paul :)

Have a CLOSE look in that empty battery hole.....if it looks like one corner has been bashed upwards from underneath , its one of the front facing corners...then its an 86...

All the best Brett :)

Your OPC should be able to tell you what model year from the chassis/engine number. I'm guessing 1984 looking at that number.

Hi all,

HAve the battery, but can't put it in as cannot get into the boot.

Lock is solid and electric release is not working (managed to reach in and attach jump leads)

Just wanted to check you pull up the boot release to make it work?

Also - does anyone know if I manage to get into the boot (car still wedged in garage) will I be able to release the boot lid from inside?

I am looking at having to get a locksmith in the way things are going :-)

Also - tried to start it and the whole car started to vibrate and did not seem to turn over.

Thanks
Regards
Paul

Hi Paul :)

You SURE you are using the correct key for the boot ???

Never tried to release my lock from inside, but I think you will have to remove the lower trim from the hatch, and i am not sure if thats possible with the hatch down without damaging the trim....

Hmmm thought a bit more about this....

Remove the tool kit (2 round knobs you twist) which is on the rear of the carpeted cross panel......and then you should be able to see the small lock linkage rod that is usually electrically powered...you should be able to pull it with pliers to release the lock....

Yes the pull is PULLED UPWARDS...and if you get someone to put their ear by the lock , they SHOULD hear a whirring noise, then a click as it releases...it only releases the lock and the hatch ONLY moves upwards by around 1/4 of an inch, you then lift it manually.....DO NOT expect it to rise upwards lol....

All the best Brett :)

Thanks Brett,

With you on whether it is the right key. It feels like its not, however I do remember my 944's didnt like opening with the key.

Will take a chance and squeeze in and hope I can release it as you suggest. Will let you know how I get on!

Regards
Paul

Cheers Brett,

Had only just picked your message up.

I was too scared to try in the end .... there was a real risk I would not be able to get out of the car if I could not open the boot as its so wedged!

I need to pull it out with a mate at the weekend. Its frustrating as I want to get stuck in.

Out of interest where is the bonnet release? I can't see it.

Regards
Paul

Hi Paul :)

Bonnet release is near your right ankle when on throttle pedal....its a sort of semi circular bracket and you PULL the lever in the bracket TOWARDS you and the bonnet should release.....

All the best Brett :)

The electric boot release only works when the door is open, if for some reason the door switch isn't working and the car sees it as still closed then the boot release won't work.

Also there may be more than one fuse for the boot release - I think there may be an inline one behind the tool panel as well as one or two on the main fuse board (depending on model year).

Now that is interesting. Do you mean the door needs to be physically opened rather than unlocked? If thats the case it could be the answer. Because its jammed in the garage I was leaning through the window and pulling the swich up.
I will check later. I am pulling it out tomorrow which will make life a lot easier as well. Will then be able to check all the fuse locations.
Thanks!!!

Hi :)

Oops thats my fault....as mine has remote locking ..i forgot that on the manual pull, then one of the doors MUST be open (not just unlocked) for the boot to release...

All the best Brett :)

Brett is correct. It's a safety feature so you can't accidentally open hatch when car is moving. The door pin switches have to be closed (i.e. one door open) for the hatch release motor to be powered. Door has to be open wide enough for interior lights to come on in other words.
