Hi everybody!

Been a while since i posted on here.

My current 944 is holding up admirably to the punishment I subject it to on track and it really is a great handling car.

However, i have wanted a 968 (esp a CS) for a while and last Wednesday while at a trackday i went out in a 968 CS (only as a passenger). This has done me no favors as it has spurred my desire to get one of these even more!

The sensible part of me tells me that its really just an updated 944 and I'd be better off in my current car (which i know and love). The child in me is telling me that you're only young once and just get it done, tick the box and worst case scenario you could sell it.

So i have a few questions if any of you knowledgeable people could answer:

* Is there a large difference between the CS and Sport other than the (optional) M030 upgrades, LSD and other upgrades? Or is the Sport as capable with the added luxury of seats, electric windows etc?

* Is the servicing costs substantially higher on a 968?

* Can anyone who has gone 944->968 and used both on track share any insights into their behavior?

I think deep down i know i really want a CS but they are fairly rare and commanding a good premium at the minute.

Hi Mark,

A 968 is an updated 944 with a number of improvements. The Sport just adds a few of the bits taken off the Club Sport.
I have recently seen a couple of high mileage examples (160000 miles) for around 5500.
Too be blunt the only improvements I really noticed were the bigger door pockets and the headlamps were better.

I got a 968 as a replacement for my first Porsche a 944 Turbo S. After 2 years of ownership I grew to like the car but it never felt as quick as my 944 Turbo so I spent a lot of time disappointed. Why not consider a 250 Bhp 944 Turbo which came as standard with M030 suspension, LSD, larger brakes etc. They are cheaper AND EASIER to find than a 968 CS, easier to uprate the engine and there is HUGE amounts of equipment that can be removed (and sold) to make it quicker on a track?
On the track at Gaydon at the weekend my latest 944 Turbo S certainly did not show its age and felt as it was made for it.

I love the 944 and i love the (slightly) more contemporary looks of the 968 (imo only!)

I guess the CS's future classic (or should that be current classic?) appeals to the collector in me, although i will be using it as intended and not as a garage queen.

Good shout about the Turbo, my only concern is that for a track car i'd rather have an N/A as the thought of getting caught out by the boost coming on early mid apex is worrying for me.....

968s look a bit more up to date although I wouldn't say I like them any more than the 944s.
I keep reading that CS are a bi of a con and barely any lighter than the sport or the coupe in real terms. Certainly stripping out a turbo 944 would give you a lighter, quicker car and the scope to mod more and more and more for the track.

I think the inherent handling that everyone raves about in the CS is common to all 3 types.

Oh and all 250 944T don't have the (probably knackered by now) MO30 suspension. It was standard on the first batch on 88 turbo S cars but for 89 and onwards it was an option as was the M474 sport.
It seems the considered option is to take them off and buy KWs anyway!

968 are nice cars but I'm not sure I would get to carried away by the CS.

I think you are right and that the premium sellers ask for with regards the CS is mostly unjustified (Silverstone Porsche have one for sale at 22K!!!)

Never driven a 944 turbo may have to have a shot in one

I'm happy enough in my 944 currently, but i'm not sure it will survive this track season......i guess when the time comes to replace I'll need to weight up the 944 vs 968 and indeed the 968 vs CS debate again.

Off hand, does anyone know if you can get CS seats separately, i'd love a set in the 944

You can get the CS bucket seats separately. BUT i hope you have deep pockets, as they sell for around £1000-£1200 a pair, and thats used...
Better off getting some Recaro pole positions...There just about the same seat...

Seems life in the CS world is lived at an inflated price! You could get a whole 944 for that
