yeah those bolts were hard to budge...had to use a rope and pull from the side. I've tried pulling the starter back but it won't budge....is there a knack to it or do I need to just pull harder?

Its probably that the mating faces are just a little rusted. A good whack with a rubber mallet should do the trick.

Worth shopping around for it, I had quite a spread of pricing when I bought mine.
Make sure you have a flare spanner to undo the pipe as well! Mine was very FFT

Orderd from Porsheshop for £56 inc delivery hope that's not too bad.

Managed to get the pipe off using a normal spanner after soaking in wd40. I've got the bottom slave bolt loose now but struggled to get to the top one, this is not easy to get to. Gave up due to low light levels and fear of damaging the bolt head.

Syphoned off the resevoir, the fluid was very dirty with bits being a bit "stringy". I hope a new slave and new fluid sorts out the problem.

just whipped the slave off ... new one expected to be delivered tomorrow. there appears to be fluid on the inside plus air escapes when i pump it so hopefully that's the issue. there is a round inspection hole on the clutch housing next to the slave...should this have a cover on it?

Nope, it is access to check clutch wear.

Jim I need your usual helpful advice please. The replacement slave arrived today. The first thing I noticed was that the piston is fully inside the housing. Is this normal? All the pictures of slave cylinders shows this protruding like the old one I took off. I put it on anyway and struggled to bleed it...is the piston being inside a problem?

Matt

The piston is normally at the end of the bore cos it has a spring on it (well some do) I think I bled mine in two hits. The first got some air out & then did it again a few days later & got some more air out.
I bleed mine as a pressure bleed. Pump the pedal sharply 8-10 strokes, then hold down. Crack the nipple & as soon as flow stops close the nipple. Repeat, sometimes this clears a bubble. If your still struggling, wedge the pedal down overnight & bleed again in the morning.

Jim,

What I mean is that the rod seems to be fully retracted in the housing so I can't see it. Is it likely to be inside the housing or would I be expected to transplant the old one on the new slave?

Yes, you have to take the rod from your old cylinder and put it in the new cylinder (try not to overstretch the rubber seal when you do this).
