Is this likely to be replacement clutch time?

Recently the clutch pedal has not be springing back up properly..it sort of stops half way then springs backs up the full amount. It then stopped coming back all the way up and i had to hook my toes unerneath to pull it back up. Now today on the way home it only came back up a minute amount and the clutch was slipping too. Is this the clutch gone or could it be one of the cylinders?

can you depress it and still get it into all gears pull away etc? if so could need a bleed ? maybe water got in the system? or reservoir needs changing..

One of the clutch cylinders is on the way out. Put your hand up the back of the clutch pedal, does it feel damp, yes? It's knackered, if not it'll be the slave, unfortunately it leaks inside the bellhousing so can't be seen until you take it off & get a sleeve full of fluid!
What state is the fluid in,if it looks like brown windsor soup then it won't do the cylinders any good. Try & syphon most out before bleeding it & DO NOT pump the pedal fully down when bleeding it.

My money will be on the slave, about 60 quid & around an hour to change.

ok thanks for the advice..I'm seriously hoping its not the clutch. I'll have a go at bleeding the system at the weekend, not sure how yet though. I could get the car into and out of gear, it slipping is a worry though.

This sounds the same problem I had a couple of weeks ago. New Slave cylinder from Porscheshop was about £50.00 and sorted out the dificulty. good luck

Was your clutch slipping when you had the problem?

Not really. The just pushed the pedal and it went to the floor but the return springs didn't activate unless I nudged by toe behind. Then the pedal bounced back to it's normal position.

After driving about 5 miles to get home and then to the garage, it was slipping and difficult to engage any gears.

Sounds like a cylinder hanging up, probably the slave.

ok thanks for the advice...left the car for three days and gone back in and (without starting the car) the pedal has returned and feels normal...the fluid does look rather murky though so will replace that first.

does the starter have to come off to bleed the clutch? Also I've read that the read has to be raised above the front...this will be interesting if I have to raise the front too!!

To be bleed it probably not, the bleed nipple on mine was FT so stripped the starter off anyway. Be careful around here as obviously the starter connection is live!

just had a crawl underneath, can get to the nipple but best if the starter does come off. I've taken off the two 19mm bolts but the starter is still attached solidly...I was expecting it to fall off?

Nope it is spigoted into the bellhousing so needs pulling backwards & out. You're lucky the bolts on mine were incredibly tight, one of them I ended up jacking a spanner up to loosen.
