Noticed yesterday that the flexible pipe from the clutch master cylinder to the hard pipe down to the slave is weeping fluid so, methinks, time to replace before I get stranded. Pipe is now on order however my pre-installation research has revealed lots of horror stories about bleeding the clutch... Are they problems that just occur on LHD models because of the shared master cylinder? Is there any special technique to bleeding a RHD car clutch or will a pipe/bottle of fluid/willing helper (wife) do??

All advice welcome (got to be back together and on the road prior to Prescott on Sunday!!)

You'll need the car up fairly high,the slave is hidden above the starter, right in the middle of the car.
Use a syringe or similar to syphon out the reservoir as best you can, so you don't pump the filthy fluid through the cylinders.
Brief who ever is doing the pumping not to use the full travel of the pedal, otherwise you'll push the master cylinder beyond it's normal travel & onto possibly rough areas & you'll be doing the master cylinder in a few weeks. Be careful waving spanners around the starter area as the lead will be live & shorting it out will be exciting.

Thanks, Jim. I was going to take the starter off - I'm getting quite good at it now and can get it off in around 10-15 mins (even with the nightmare turbo heatshield!). So all this malarkey about raising the rear of the car as high as poss and sticking screwdrivers through the clutch inspection hole is overcomplicating it, is it?

This is something I want to do soon as the 8 year old fluid in mine doesn't fill me with confidence, especially if it comes out looking anything near as wrong as the stuff I got out of the brakes.

Ah, Dave please expand... That sounds good! Is it just a case of filling the master cylinder, opening the bleed valve, and letting gravity do the rest? No need to unship the slave to get it lower to stop an airlock in the flexible pipe??

I bled mine with front raised & it was fine. Not sure it'll gravity bleed, the bleed nipple is tiny.

Thats it, just let good old gravity do its job.

I always bleed systems that way, be they Brakes or Clutch

Dave, is that on 911s, or will it work on a 944? (worried about airlocks 'cos of flexible pipe...)

I used the Ezibleed pressure bleed kit on mine and it is indeed easy with one of these kits. I also highly recommend you disconnect the battery and remove the starter. Best of luck.

Now that's a nice piece of kit!! 10 mins max to get it bled... I'm sure that gravity works as well but it certainly takes a while. The Gunson kit takes minutes! Anyway, all done and working as advertised.
