Hi, i asked Sean at the NEC about the club obtaining a Bosch Hammer or similiar, diagnostic tool after Jon Mitchell gave a talk at the national event a couple of years ago. He told me to email him and he would look into this but i have not recieved a reply and just wondered if anything had happened on this subject ?

The club would need to get the "Pro" version as it will read an unlimited number of vehicles - the "Enthusiast" version is limited to 3 cars.

This is where the debate starts. The Club could fund this piece of kit but would have to take a deposit by credit card to cover it's replacement and charge for recorded postage both ways.

That would be one option; however one of the most useful features of this device is the ability to check a prospective purchase of 996/997 for being over-revved. This would really require the individual concerned having possession of the kit.

A deposit & secure courier system is probably the only way to handle this sensibly. Personal experience of a similar scheme run commercially tells me that fixed term rental and more than one device are going to be required if it isn't to turn into an absolute nightmare for Sean (or whoever is tasked to run this)

Hi, sorry for delay, work problems.
I spoke to Jon Mitchell, the one he uses most of the time came from JDS porsche. It was originally just for 928's but can be used on cars upto about 1996. This is £300, but for 1988 cars, a different connector is required.
If you are thinking of newer cars then the price goes up as it will have to be a pukka item.
Jon very kindly said the club could borrow it for a month and see how we got on with it. He thought it was a good idea as it would tempt new members to the club as PCGB don't have one. He also offered his services as a trouble shooter with the system.
Probably best to talk to Jon as he can explain things better than myself .

We're going to probably need the version that picks up all models as we have a 50/50 split between pre and post 1996 cars

The only way we can do this is if the person borrowing it covers it cost on their credit card to ensure it's safe return.

Passing it from Region to Region, sounds fine in principal but experience tells me it will get misplaced.

if it goes from region to region it goes from ro to ro with whichever member wants to use covering the cc cost of replacement with the ro? just a thought.

It won't work, just like the regalia being in the boot of cars didn't. Eventually the club had to write off £2k.

This piece of kit will only be of any use is if it is held centrally and requested by individual members when they need it.
