The FIA ruled that Hamilton provided misleading information on the circumstances which led to Toyota's Jarno Trulli being demoted from his third place finish.

The British driver had finished the race fourth overall but was promoted to the podium after reporting Trulli for illegal overtaking.

McLaren accused the Italian driver of passing Hamilton while a safety car was on the track on lap 57.

Trulli was subsequently slapped with a 25-second penalty, which saw him relegated to 12th.

Afterwards he said: "When the safety car came out towards the end of the race, Lewis Hamilton passed me but soon after he suddenly slowed down and pulled over to the side of the road.

"I thought he had a problem so I overtook him as there was nothing else I could do."

He has been reinstated to third place.

Thats a shame. It was a good race. Great to see some new faces up there. But if thats what happened then it's right. Poor Trulli must have been a bit miffed! Should have settled for fourth. Better than the red cars! Not much sportsmanship left in it.

It’s been getting even worse. Dave Ryan’s been suspended or fired from Maclaren now, under the belief that it was him who “told Hamilton to lie”.

It's only a controversy until the truth comes out, and I'm afraid that headlines like 'Hamilton the Liar' in the press will not do him much good with the public and his fan. He should have said that his dad told him to lie.... we'd have believed that!

Brawn GP for me this year. English men running it, Ross Brawn is a local lad from Manchester, English driver, English man footing the bill (Branson) - so if we ignore the German engine it's pretty much the most English team out there.

I do stand to be corrected though.

If my memory serves me well, that engine is an Ilmor, which Mercedes eventually bought a couple of years ago, all they had been doing before that was paying the bills and sticking the Merc star on the top . So British team, British engine (Merc money) British Chassis (Honda multi million development dough, but hey , who's counting. Just pleased Jensons got a decent car under him for the first time in his career :D :D
