Evening all,

Underneath the 944 S2, am I correct in saying that there is a sump guard of sorts underneath the engine? Is there then also a further cover that goes over that to add some sort of aero effect? I've got a nasty feeling that when the car went in to have the power steering done, this cover has been left off. Has anyone got any pictures of the underside of their 944's?

I've tried looking in my various 944 guides and bits and pieces, and Google images but to no avail. Can anyone help?

There are two undertrays, the first is under the nose PU & is like a half moon, then you have a roughly square tray which goes from the back of the 1/2 moon to the back of the X member. It attaches to the X member by loads of 6mm bolts (or should!)
To do a service the squarish tray is the only one that has to come off, I've seen ally ones & plastic versions.

Thanks for the response Jim. I think everything is where it should be then. There is the half moon section as you describe and then the square-ish undertray.

I'm still weeping a little oil on the right hand side of the engine though (left side when viewed from the front). It collects on the undertray and drips through the holes. Any idea's?

Mine does it, well is pi55es out actually Probably either oil cooler or balance shaft housing.Unfortunately it drips on the power steering pump & arb rubber & does neither any good.

924s and series one 944s have a metal undertay: series two 944s have a black plastic part.

My turbo se was weeping small amounts of oil in same area, don't no if S2 engines will be similar but JMG garage found a gasket at rear of engine was the problem. Investigate in this area if poss to see because it meant dropping a cross member, or something like that, they said to get at it!

I've got the undertray off at the moment looking for an oil leak. I've got a sump gasket and I'm just hoping it's not the rear crank seal. Dropping the cross member is preferable to taking the engine out!
