I currently own an '87 944 Celebration edition in a lovely Zermatt silver, with the studio cloth interior in grey. The cloth is the same design as the silver rose plaid (shown at http://germancarsforsaleblog.com/1988-porsche-944-turbo-s-silver-rose-one-of-the-most-rare-951-configurations/interior/) except in grey. Unfortunately, it's looking pretty tatty now, and the seats could really do with a retrim.

The problem is, however, the fabric. Porsche Uk tell me that they can't get any, and so I thought I'd ask here. Can anyone help?

I know that it'd probably be easier just to have the seats retrimmed in a random fabric, but as this was a limited edition I'd really like to restore it in the original colours.

TIA,

John

Try Southbound trimmers. They have stocks of a lot of the fabrics, very often on an exclusive basis.

I hve an associate in germany who may eb able to source this fabric for you, pm me the details and I will email him to find out if you like.

I was under the impression Southbound had a large stock of these hard to get fabrics, have you called them yet?

Apologies for the slow update, life been getting in the way of sorting my baby. Thanks to all for the suggestions.

I've spoken to Southbound, who have identified the fabric code but don't have any, and I have since spoken to Reading OPC (who southbound recommended) and despite trying his best, the chap there has also drawn a blank.

A PM is on it's way to you, Wasserkuhl - hopefully your associate can help.

I heard that at the new Porsche Museum there is a Porsche restoration place.
Here the rich (and yes you have to be rich) bring their cars to be restored by Porsche technicians some of which actually worked on 924s, 944s etc the first time around.
These guys have access to stocks of old materials and paints etc. If they don't have it, they can recommission it. But I suspect it will cost you.

Is that the one at Silverstone? The Porsche experience centre? Or is it another museum that I've not come across yet?

Haha. Must remember to engage brain before using keyboard.

I have a feeling that the trip to Stuttgart might eat most of my restoration budget! And I definitely don't fall into the rich category. So, I might have to give that a miss.

Or another place i came across on my last visit to Europe was Van Zweeden.
Amazing place. Lots of parts - they might have a set of seats in your colour? Worth a e-mail / call.....

Beware - this site can seriously damage your wallet :o

It might be worth ringing around all the Porsche independents like Porscheshop, Club Autosport etc etc as sometimes they have old seats kicking around.

When I had my 928 driver's seat re-trimmed I needed grey pinstripe fabric and was told it was available at £300 per metre
Luckily for me Porscheshop had an old 944 drivers seat with the same cloth and donated it to the cause :D
