Hi,

I'm still on the look out to join the Porsche ownership group and buy a 968.

Prices I've seen vary from 6k up to 13k.

I saw a Club Sport for sale that had rare extras like an elec sunroof & elec windows, is this true?? Surely the only difference between a CS and standard 968 is the weight saving. So really this car no longer should be called a CS.

Steve

All Club Sports had a sun roof, apart from the first 175 or thereabouts. You have to remember that the CS was designed as a cheaper 968, not a CS in the traditional sense: Porsche were on their arse and all cars, the 968 especially, were over-priced. It was cheaper for Porsche to use the standard body in white and this incorporated a sunroof.

968 values is a touch subject, especially on PistonHeads. The cars are over valued in my opinion: I sold a CS owned almost from new, for less than worn out cars are selling for now. Good for the vendors but they offer poor value for a buyer. 968 Sports' values seem to rising in a similar manner, so Id only suggest buying one of those if its sensibly priced. Failing that Id suggest that you buy a mechanically sound UK or Euro 'Lux' and spend a small percentage of the huge amount saved on decent suspension and maybe some larger brakes. Youll have an equal (probably better because most CSs didnt specify M030 and either way, their suspension will be worn out by now) car and a lot more money. This is only my opinion and many will disagree: but its unblinkered and Im not influenced by the 968CS-myth.....

There isnt a deal of weight saving and the electric window regulators only weigh a few hundred grammes more than the manual regulators. The principal difference between the 'Lux' and the Club Sport and Sport models is the suspension. The damer settings and ride height were altered for the latter.

Actually not all Club Sports had sun roof's. Mine didn't come with a sun roof.

There were about 30 that came into Australia and none had sun roof's.

The roof was an option and so was A/C, but electric windows wasn't added in these models.

The UK only 'sport' version could be optioned with basically everything from the coupe including electric windows.

There were 189 RHD Club Sports and approx 1540 LHD Club sports.

This equates to quite a rare example from Zuffenhausen. Ssssssh don't tell anyone or the prices will go crazy..........

The 968 is a wonderful car and I can attest to the fact that its the best handling vehicle I have ever driven. Most M030 Equipped 968's will by now, have worn out suspension, this can be rectified by either having the struts rebuilt by Koni or investing in the marvellous KW Variant suspension available.

Things to consider are that a 968 CS without the LSD (M220) and MO30 (koni) suspension will not be as amazing as the Club Sport Myth implies however still a superior drive. With the addition of an LSD, reduced weight and sorted supension reveals a car that is very very special.

as 944 man states its only my opinion and I am biased because I searched for a 968 CS with the right options for a very long time. In between sampling alot of 911's as well. For me the Club Sport principal felt more pure and was a perfect evolution of my old 944 S2.

My 2cents , ker-plunk!
