hi,just wondering if anybody can help,i moved to bulgaria 18 months ago and brought my 1984 944 8v here with me,not all been plain sailing but usually pick up parts when i am in uk when the alternator failed i took it to a local repair shop who gave it back in bits, hence no exchange unit, it must be the same(or at least have the same fittings) as some bmw audi or vw?!!! as used spares for these are easy enough to come by it should be no problem unlike the word Porsche which is always followed by the phrase "you must go to the Porsche garage".so if you know what might fit or somewhere on the web i could find out i would be grateful to hear from you as i am missing my car yet again, ironic really as it was TOTALLY trouble free for 2 years and then snapped a cam belt just before i moved here and barely been able to run for a week without some kind of breakdown resulting in a 2 month wait for parts since......................really did think i was on top of it when the alt packed up

I can only suggest that the alternator is a generic Bosch one. A Bosch agent should be able to give you assistance.
SC Motor factors in Strood have been good to me in the past if you can dial the UK. Phone 0044 1622 766410

A two week wait is a pain. Customs trouble probalby. A new one is £125 from Porsche shop + £75 surcharge. Doesn't it make sence to buy from America outright were there cheaper to start with? What are the roads like out there? Drove across Mordovia (Russia) early last year & the roads were just potholes joined together!

no not customs hassles, bulgaria is part of eu now it is usually waiting until a friend comes over or my wife comes back from doing some work in uk. roads are not that bad, but maybe i have just got used to them............though the standard of driving is still awful.............its much better than romania which i found really bad to drive through
