Since I got my 944 Cabby, the indicators and hazards flash far too quickly like one of the bulbs has blown, but they all work.

I guess the next step will be to replace the relay, but before I do, I thought I would ask if anyone else has had this problem and how they fixed it.

Some of the aftermarket cheapy bulbs increase flash rate. 99% sure that the flasher on the 944 is electronic not bi-metallic so a new 'un should sort it.

Make sure that the bulbs are 21 watt and that the previous owner hadn't swapped them for LED bulbs too as both of these will alter the flash rate.

Make sure the last owner hasn't fitted LED indicators without resistors in each circuit as LEDs take less current than bulbs so fool the indicator relay into thinking a bulb has gone and flashing too fast. Had to fit 5ohm resistors across each of the ones I fitted to my motorbike for the same reason and they need to be able to stand the constant temperature so usually ceramic not the usual circuit board type.

my indicators flash really fast, and the side repeaters don't flash at all - I thought maybe they were disconnected or broken/fuse etc until I put the hazards on and they worked fine, and at the right speed too.

I thought the side repeaters should work all the time and not just with the hazards - isn't this the case? :(

Yup should flash with both, in fact it's an MOT failure.
I can't for the life of me think why one should work & the other don't, been a long day maybe it'll come to me after a lie down!

Thanks Jim. I got a new relay (Lucas SFB190) for £3.99 off of ebay and that has sorted it. :D

maybe the guy I bought it off gave it one of those "under the counter" MOTs then - because the fail page in the internet referred to welding underneath and I couldn't find any...
Hmmm...

I've just got my car back from having its belts done and the front offside indicator is no longer working (on hazards or indicator). Change the bulb with no joy. Would a faulty relay cause one light to fail? I'm thinking maybe the mechanic disturbed something when doing the belts?

From recent experience, the relay only has 3 pins, so it doesn't have one output per light.

I would suspect some damage has been caused to the connection on the back of the indicator fitting. Maybe the connector has just been pulled off?

nine times out of ten its usually the bulb contact.

The flasher does indeed only have 3 pins, an earth and a power thru... the stalk directs it to the appropriate place. But it wont be that as the whole side will be out.

if you are getting a voltage at the contact, i'd trace the wire back.
