How to Refurb your Fuchs

I recently did a total refurb on my Fuchs. I did the majority of it myself which saved a bundle but does take hours and hours to do.

Here's how one of them turned out:

Super job on the wheels, I've done the same on various rims including motorcycle wheels and to seal the wheels and obviate polishing every other day I paint them with 2K clear lacquer.
Just a couple of light coats does'nt take much shine off them. Of course if your ride is a garage queen this wont really apply.

I do drive her hard and on track so she produces some very hot and nasty brake dust. To date I have used a carnuba wax to coat and protect the surface, but that of course has to be re-applied quite often.

I done some Fuchs too.

This is how one of them started out, very dull.



After session with 300 grit wet n dry, building up to 2500 and then going onto the fully polishing session they ended up like this.





Then the guy wanted them detailed as well (I would have left them fully polished personally as they looked like chrome).



Once he added some new centre caps, they looked really good.

The real pain is getting the anodising off the rims, and with the magnesium content within the fuchs they always come up like mirror.

To keep them looking at their best, use autosol as if you lacquer them I always found they dulled down a lot.
