good nutshell!!!!!!!!!!!![ 993 is a fab car you do not have the very high levels of tlc you will have to invest in a very early car but you will have the benifit of the last of the hairy ar$e Porsches before you get to the 'sanitized'996/7cars which of course have their place and at present are very good value , won't be long before you can get two 996's for the price of a good 993 . now thats great value !!! :D quote="66ghia"]Wow.....was not expecting all that....I will not be doing any daily miles, just dry weekends !!

should get a reasonable car for K20 but a really good one will be K25 , look for and try a left hooker they drive better IMO as the peddles are sited in a better position , don't expect it cheaper though ,cos everyone knows abouy this plus the European marketplace is strong for 993's good luck

Hi

I tend to agree with Sam

At £20k expect approx 100k miles on the clock and at £24k to £25k you ought to be in the 50k to 60k mileage bracket

Lots to look out for

You might get lucky and find an urgent sale privately but whatever you do get an expert inspection done. To me it's a no brainer when thinking about investing the sort of money talked about here

I looked at many cars before selecting one for professional inspection. The inspection revealed a few things that I did not spot and that covered the charge in the negotiated discount

The biggest issue I have found with the 993 is brake wear. On the targa make sure the roof is in good condition and the seals are not cream crackered, also listen for squeaks and rattles from the roof; good ones are fine

If you are extremely serious about buying on of these cars I can send you a check list I devised

Also on the issue of inspections many independants do them and they are not as costly as you may think, certainly less expensive than a certain person who writes in certain magazines

Also make sure all the stickers are in place, especially under the "bonnet" and the numbers match all over and to the "log book" and original paper work if there is any

Last 5 to 6 years comprehensive service records and bills is essential IMHO

finally 48k service is a big one in terms of work and cost so make sure it has been done properly; check the bills for materials, labour and consumables

Mr Pink Wheels.......get the impression that you are not taking this to seriously !!!

What does tax and insurance cost you (are the pink rims a covered peril ?)

Hi

my insurance is £329 per year, protected NCB, full NCB, 5000 miles per year on a 993 Targa, garaged and a city post code

Have a look on Pistonheads at ref 587389 at £24k (silver 993 targa with red interior)

It seems to tick most of the boxes, most of the work seems to be done but front brakes need a check over as does the paper work. Colour ought not to be a big issue if you can live with it, the car is what you buy.

Might even get it for a bit less

I think Steve Bull does inspections

Sorry cannot find my check list due to a few bad sectors on the second hard disc on my P.C.

drive as many cars as you can. I drove 996s, 993s but nothng older. I bought my C4 because, well.. it 'made' me fall in love with it!

The looks, the drive, the sound, the history, the value, the respect, the honour. you don't get any of that in a 996. If it is weekends and you are looking for something special then go for a 993. I drove 380 miles last Sunday and it didn't miss a beat. It is an amazing car and I hope to look after it and pass it on to my son 96 more years to go!).
