Had car out for short run today heavens opened not far from home , checked in vents and water from road in both sides car is now drying in garage, does water enter from sill drains or front arches ? ps car has been out in rain parked :? before and sills remained dry .

The only manufacured holes into the sill area are the drains underneath, a few rubber bungs along the inner sill into the passenger compartment and another bung in the rear wheel arch at the rear end of the sill cavity. I've never looked into my sills after a drive in heavy water, but I can't imagine it's normal to be full of water

i wouldn't think its normal for water to enter the sills either, there are drain holes at the bottom so unless you went through water which is higher than sill level and the water got in that way

I wouldn't have thought the water should get in, bit of condensation yes but lots no. No holes front or rear of the sills?

Never heard of it either - but then not many people check.

I take it there isn't a crud build-up behind the plastic trim along the bottom of the sill? That blocks the little drain holes and is probably the reason S2 and Turbo models have a worse time with corrosion than Luxes.

I think someone on PCGB forum told us a couple of weeks ago that their fuel filler drain tube was off and that water going through the drain hole ended up in the space in front of the rear wheel. but that would only account for one side.

Is it possible someone was a bit gung-ho clearing out the sunfroof drains and the tubes are pushed off and draining into the sills? If you carefully pour water into the holes in the sunroof shut it should come out behind the front wheels / in front of the rear wheels through a tube. Does it?

sunroof drains both ok as is fuel cap drain ,i check sills as i have seen plenty 944s2 with rotten sills , not all of them could possibly be poor repairs carried out during there early years , i will investigate more but water and grit in sills is from road ,sills were dry and clean when i bought car, previous owner did not use in wet weather .also i left car out for 2 days in rain and sills were dry that time ? yes plastic sill trim full of gunk but i washed it down other night and whats there is from run other day, front tyres seem to throw gunk into this area where it gets trapped .
