Fuel octane

Post by H997 »

Hi,

Rookie 928 question .. I have a 1986 S2 4.7 no engine modifications completely stock... What is the most appropriate grade of fuel, have always used premium 98 Octane on more modern Porsches. This is my first time running older generation of Porsche.

Thanks

Hi :)

Always use V-Power... its 99 octane...your S2 like mine WILL run on standard unleaded BUT,,, you really should connect the low octane loop connector under the dash if you do otherwise the ecu will retard your timind and you WILL lose hp...

Once I managed to find a garage selling 5* leaded (100+ octane) and my S2 after around 10 miles went like S***T off a shovel.... it was truly amazing...

All the best Brett :)

I run a 42 yr old 928 and runs on unleaded no probs due to the low compression
What I used to do when they took the lead out of the petrol was every so often go to my local airfield and get a couple of jerry cans of 100 Avgas.
I know quite a lot of classic car owners that do this to get the valves lubed with lead every so often
Only down side is the cost of Avgas as more expensive.
