Re: 944 S2 Repair
First instance I've heard of cracked 944 cranks. Was one of them from the cracked block you had? Makes me wonder if seizures ,blow ups, or harmonics from a missing balancer belt caused it.

Re: 944 S2 Repair
Not from the cracked block paul but one had spun a bearing and the heat from that probably caused the damage .
Changed the ford mustang throttle body over to an RS2 one , much stronger spring for better pedal feel and the TPS is an exact fit as the audi one is very similar but had to turn the shaft 180 degrees . It also stops that damn whistle I had from the other throttle body that was driving me to distraction . Once fitted and road tested found another handy feature of the vems ecu I didnt know about and took a while to find and a bit of head scratching as I had accidently activated the safe mode/anti theft which disables the ignition . This feature can be activated from your mobile apparently instead of a fitted alarm , no good for me as I often lose my phone which would cause a headache .
Also started on another 16v intake using a 2jz casting (ebay special) which is perfect length for the 968 runners , on the previous 1jz intake I used , I had to cut and remove a couple of inches to get it to fit .

Re: 944 S2 Repair
I've often wondered what the benefit of the big double plenum inlet manifolds is?

Re: 944 S2 Repair
You will be on the "Antiques Road Show" with those parts soon paul .
Very tight on space with a double plenum intake and decent size turbo I would imagine . You going 16v now ?
As for cost , no idea but as you see its been spread over long period of time .

Re: 944 S2 Repair
Not sure on that Paul , but here's a couple of pics of latest intake ready for a 16v turbo . Just getting flange skimmed then powder coated . I have a Jenvey 70mm throttle body with an evo idle control vale attached which the vems will be able to operate .
Spent most of the day on my back fitting the rebuilt AOR box , all went well till the torque tube joint decided it didn't want to go back on but finally gave in . Now all ready for mot .

Re: 944 S2 Repair
Couple more pics on making the intake . Bought 4 Ducatti 51mm trumpets (£25 ebay) which I cut down to fit and had them welded on (welder not happy as high nickel content in trumpets) . Then spent some time further porting out the trumpets before welding on plenum .

Re: 944 S2 Repair
Nice job. The MOT man didn't like the busted spring on the back my A4, so I spent the morning changing that. I won't complain about working on my 944 again.

Re: 944 S2 Repair
My 944 needs an MOT in a month, reckon the TPS is goosed. I've run with it disconnected for ages, may try one of the conversion kits for a BMW TPS.

Re: 944 S2 Repair
I have heard this waylander but I struggled to locate a volvo turbo tps when I searched before admittedly only at a couple of places .
Paul sounds like a good time to install that vems ecu you have then you can run whatever .
