OK so I have just be looking at the HRW and Boot light circuits. I assume that you have added the lucar connector tabs to your non OE struts.

The current flow in the system is up the left strut, through the window element and back to ground through the right strut. So the left strut has to be insulated from the body i.e. has a plastic bottom ball joint socket. The right strut has to be connected to ground at the bottom, it does this through the lower ball joint socket which is metal.

1) Turn on HRW check that left hand bottom connection to strut has 12 V on it using DVM (wire disconnected from strut).
2) chect that there is no continuity from the lower lucar tag on the left strut to the body.
3) check that there is continuity from bottom lucar tag to top lucar tag.
4) on the left habnd strut check that there is continuity from the top lucar tag to the body.
5) check that there is continuity betweeen the two wire tails to the HRW element.

If not as above correct fault and reconnect all wiring

The switch assembly on the right hand strut is for the boot light. It provides a ground for the circuit. It has nothing to do with the HRW. i.e. HRW works hatch open or closed.

Hope this is some help.

Let me know if further guidance is needed.

Neil

Tailgate onions - puts me in mind of something unpleasant around the nether regions :?

I third the quality first post sentiment.

Thank you for your kind comments.

I don't have too much experience on the 944 having only owned mine for a week, but close on 30 years of electrical fault finding on vehicles, aircraft and gas turbine control systems enables you to work out whats going on pretty quickly!

One of the few faults on my car was a non-op boot light so I had a look during a tea break. the problem was that the copper finger that provides the ground for the bulb had lost it's tension and was not touching the gas stut shaft. Switch assembly removed finger bent, all replaced and working.

I have to say I love the quality of engineering on the car.

Wait until the sunroof packs up! I was trained on aircraft electrics & electronics & the sunroof mech is the most complicated way of opening a sunroof I can think of & then some  3 relays, 4 microswitches, multiple input signals & a motor...... What genius thought that lot up, I'd love to meet him one day  Vorsprung bl00dy durch tecnic

Oh Hi & Welcome

That makes me feel happy that I don't have a sunroof to fight with. Got enough glitches to sort without that lot to go wrong

I've already had to do the sun roof gears. I did not think it was too difficult, less than an hour start to finish. The clutch was well out of spec though 12Nm not 6!
I followed the Porsche manual and the procedure worked perfectly.......So much easier just setting the reference dimension of 284mm than all the messing about marking lift arms as suggested by Clarks. Granted the switch system is a bit complicated but at least it hasn't got a microprocessor in it

Jim, I guess you were working on older airframes?.......the Porsche is not so bad compared to my curent project (currently working on flight test instrumentation) plus being a multi-national project means we don't even speak the same language....aghh.

Found that most of the bits I required were much cheaper from OPC Guildford than from ebay. They were very helpful and posted the bits out for £2.85! Good cup of coffee as well.

OPC Exeter will usually undercut the other OPCs and post out. Just mention "the forum" and you get a discount - they don't care which forum.

Not the Wright Brothers but Sam Cody flew from the same place but 70 years before I got there!
