Finally, after another 3 plus hours, the front bushing in the drivers side wishbone is out! This was in much better condition than the passenger one (due to being a newer wishbone-history file shows it was replaced at some point) but still had an amount of corrosion in the small gap between the two bushes. I might put a bit of ph neutral silicon in there when it comes to reassembly just to stop it getting any worse.
To be honest, if it wasn't that they should be replaced in pairs, I would not have touched the drivers side at all & if it comes up to be done again, I'll take the wishbones out and take them loose to a garage. I am not looking forward to fitting the new bushes at all if getting them out was anything to go by.

On a more positive note, the brake fittings turned up today However, with the wrong finish I wanted passivated Zinc so as to match the existing. I got bright Zinc or possibly Cadmium................

I have a wood vice which is handy for pressing some bushes in.
You can try some petroleum jelly. Makes them a bit slippier.

No petroleum on rubber, you will accelerate its demise

Yes, my bad. I didn't think they were actually made from rubber anymore.

"Petroleum Jelly - Pure Petroleum Jelly is compatible with plastics and synthetic rubber, but not advisable for natural rubbers."

I'll have to check whether whatever bushes I buy in the future is rubber (or just avoid using it completely).

Though I have used and was recommended using Petroleum jelly on the O rings for Injector installation and the O rings on the Fuel Pressure Regulator to prevent pinching but they're Nitrile (I believe).

I'll ship my wishbones to Rider51 when they need bushes. He'll be good at it by then.

MOT ran out, before the 6 month extension . Have to fix the awkward bastid screen washer pump too.

Mine was due on the April 2 just checked online and it’s not due till October 3 now

Similar for my daughters Fiesta, saved myself £25-50 for a few months.

Mine is still saying due June 25th, which is the normal date. Assume that will move if the situation remains?

I have a NSF brake cover plate to fit and a rear silencer heat shield to replace (the one which is made from unobtanium for a 250 turbo). I think I will get it powder coated before I fit it due to scarcity.

I used a bit of washing up liquid to persuade my ARB bushes into place - it was a breeze with that.

I had exactly this problem. I bought an unobtainable heat shield from Woolies. It was marginally less ropey than the one I had. That was 2 years ago.

I treated it with Bilt Hamber hydrate 80 and then painted it with black matt, high temperature paint.
I'm in the middle of doing an engine swap on my 944 and I took this shield off. It's still in the same condition from when I renovated it and I drive my 944 all year round and in winter.

Partworks delivered the replacement bushings via Royal mail yesterday and having checked the contents was all present & correct, they were summarily put in the freezer.
Those of you following along may remember that I had commented thus: 'I am not looking forward to fitting the new bushes at all if getting them out was anything to go by.'

I needn't have been quite so pessimistic- they went in without a hitch -well sort of! A rookie mistake meant that I had to bring out the angry grinder and reduce the length of threaded rod that I was using to wind the bushes in. You see I'd put it the wrong way round so that the threadlocked nut end was on the inside of the wishbone & there was not enough movement in the bush to allow me to get it out...
A smidgeon of Castrol Red rubber grease definitely helped too and will also help prevent any crap getting between the two bushings from further corroding the wishbone.
Buoyed by this success I tackled removal of the remains of the oil filter heat shield as parts of mine have gone AWOL! Fully expecting the bolts to shear, it was rather surprising when they came undone fairly easily and I managed to get the broken piece out!
Now to wait for Porsche to open up so they can relieve me of silly money for the replacement!

As soon as I had a look at the old lump sat on a pallet on the drive, I knew what plate you're talking about.
I recognised it as they fitted the plate to the 2.7's and that is on the engine that i'm putting back in (and no, you can't have it - sorry).
The 2.7 was built as a test module for the S2 and is more similar to the S2 than the 944.

So, my apologies for getting your hopes up.

Waylander has the live Pet2 and can see if it's still available before you ring Porsche.
(I expect you knew that anyway).

I do have the two bolt plate off the 2.5 if it's any good to you?

No worries- thanks for the thought.

They are available-Martin has confirmed. You have to buy the whole blasted thing & I only want/need the last 3rd .
Not seen any come up for sale in the UK as yet & those in the US are absolute rust buckets.

The lower part of the shield- the bit I'm missing, I believe further protects the drivers side engine mount and the steering knuckle. The 2 bolt plate just does the oil filter as I understand & I'm OK for that part thanks.

Any progress on yours or was it a day away from it?

I am all ready to put the other engine in.
