When I bought my first 944 it had been sat for 5 years and not started.
Dropped the oil and replaced. Removed the fuel filter and drained any remaining fuel out of the tank and flushed it through to remove any debris that may have built up over the period it had sat unused. New plugs, new oil, new filter.
Mine had a problem with debris stuck on the end of the crank sensor, so mine didn't start up initially, however I removed the supply to the dizzy to get some oil and fuel pressure built up. Once the problem was sorted it started straight up no problem. A little different from your situation but I suppose it would be relevant. Engine is still great now with no problems.
