The biggest problem I can see with this, is there is no mention of where the subsidy funds come from for this scheme? The second lies in the lack of any evidence for the supposed "green" credentials of any such scheme. Porsches must be some of the longer lasting brands of car in general due to their prestige and fan following combined with generally good reliability. As such, should this not be factored into any further incentive plans....



The general proposition is not so bad, making it more economically viable to purchase a newer car than another "it has an mot" car. There is no mention anywhere of discouraging or penalising those cherishing their older vehicles.

Sorry but the RAC (breakdown cover) and the bunch of tree hugging RAC foundation are very different people

I am an RAC member and have been for a number of years, I have had nothing but great service from them for both my old Porsches one 22yrs the other 17yrs. Indeed all the roadside guys that turned up were very enthusiastic about the cars and wanted to talk about what they were like to drive with real admiration for the marque.

I think there is an argument to reduce the number of older, regularly driven vehicles on the road as in general they are not well maintained and emission friendly. However most "classic" cars do not tend to be driven 15-20K miles per year day in day out and in general are more regularly maintained, so I would presume the total emission impact would be less than that of say a diesel Mondeo doing +20K per year.

I like to think I use my car regularly almost everyday when I am not using my motorbike but still manage to cover less than 5K miles per year so probably 1/4 of the usage of your average rep mobile, so based on those usage figures my car would have to be 4 times less efficient to make a similar impact on the environment.

Last rant what about the local transport system I know where I live the school buses are well over 20 years old.
