PCM CD Changer not available 2003 996 C4S

Post by Spot »

Has anyone experienced this problem?

I recently got the notification ‘System Error:CD Changer not available’ on the screen of my PCM(2). Everything else on the PCM appears to work Radio/ Nav/ and the CD Changer allows me to eject discs. I could live without the CD Changer, but i’ve found that there appears to be a drain on the battery too. I’ve pulled the 4x fuses for the info system and the battery drain has stopped. Obviously, there’s no longer a radio or Nav (which i do use). Anyone had this happen and how did you deal with it?

So, second question. If i decide to have the PCM removed (and stored for future owners) which after market 2DIN DAB / Nav / Hands free unit is best?

Have you put the fuses back in or checked the internal fuse. Either may reset the system

Your 4S is Most Bus, so you will need to change the wiring when you fit a new unit. I swapped mine out for an Alpine/Sat Nav/DVD unit.

A lot on both the Porsche UK & Porsche Cayenne forums on FB there have been lots of discussion about changing out the PCM.
There seems to be two options the first is to go with a mainstream make such as Pioneer, Alpine etc. as Sean has mentioned above. The second option is one of the Android double DIN units from China. Currently seems to be 50/50.
Be warned both solutions enable the steering wheel controls to be kept but the interface cable is normally extra. Some of the units do Apple Car Play, reversing camera etc.

Sean and Jim,

Thanks both. I’ll try replacing the fuses to see if the system will reset. I hadn’t realised that you’d changed the unit in your 4S Sean. I’ll have a chat with you again before i do anything permanent.
