I trained on aircraft electrics/electronics & I found fault finding on the 944 sunroof a PITA! A more complex solution to opening a lump of plastic I couldn't think of!.
There is a flow chart in the genuine Porsche manual which is a good start, together with from memory Clarkes & Pelican guides.
The microswitches are a common point of hassle. My one (also an 87) failed with the handle on the header rail, the first time I tweaked it by bending the arm & a few weeks later it was giving hassle so looped the connection to short the switch out, end of problem.
