A £25 valve seat broke on mine in March and it cost me £7K
Theres more and more bad stories regarding the LN ceramic bearing, what about the latest NSK with the dust cover removed? Soaks in oil when it's off and gets splashed constantly with oil via the chains when it's running. I've fitted this to my last 2 996 engines.
Officially 'Unluckiest 911 owner in the world'.
5 x 911's and 4 engine failures.
Car all ok. I took it to Porsche Reading for a trip via Bristol to complete 2nd stage of running in (250miles). First stage was a 30mile trip with an oil & filter change, then my trip to Porsche HQ in Reading.Only niggle was tandem pump pipe was damaged & this affected the brake servo & pedal travel. £50 to fix.
Total spend was in excess of the £5k initially quoted, but this was because I changed all 6 liners & all the bearings & seals, along with the 2 new pistons & IMS shaft & bearing. This was not for the ceramic bearing as it was already the larger bearing which Porsche has fitted after the early 996 & 997 failures.
Massive thank you to Richard at RSR in Bromsgrove who carried out the work for me & cannot recommend him highly enough. His advice, experience was invaluable & he still saved me lots of money. Thank you very very much Richard.
All that remains is for another 500miles to be put on the clock & then will have another oil & filter change & will use nano drive oil from Opie oils. Currently using mineral oil for the run-in process & keeping below 3000rpm.
My initial thoughts are how tight the engine is, it's quicker & more responsive. Before when I hit accelerator there was a delay, yet now it's instantaneous....can't wait to get the next 500miles out of the way.

Now with rebuilt engine complete, so must try warp speed more often...
Pleasure Stuart, although it took longer than expected the result as always is tip top, we try to keep out prices sensible but as you know the majority cost is parts.
I was very pleased with the engine and its performance considering I didn't Rev it over 3500 rpm.
Car has now covered 1000 miles & after last service is now running on nano oil 5w/40 supplied by Opie oils.
Car is running cooler due to the low temp stat & oil pressure is slightly higher but I'm assured this is down to no leakage in the bore......fuel is better as well.
Car is also a lot more responsive through all of the gears & quicker, as in there used to be a throttle response lag, but now it's instantaneous...well chuffed.

Good end to the story, nice one!
