In the spare wheel well of my old '84 (square dash) 944, I was able to keep a full size 7" cookie cutter with 195/65R15 tyre. I now have an 86my (oval dash) car, which came with a space saver (but no pump). The old wheel and tyre will fit in the well, but it's a tighter squeeze than I remember and the carpet won't fit over it, though the luggage blind will.

Did these things change with the introduction of the oval dash car, or was my old one mistreated (quite possible) ?

The carpet for spacesaver wheels has a smaller hump.
you should be able to pick up a boot carpet (depending on colour) on ebay.

I've now opted for no spare and a can of tyre weld
