Not a good day.
Car went to my mate to have the cambox gasket fitted & cure the oil leak. It was only a couple of miles to the garage. Inlet valve stuck open & the piston hit it. So now it needs a head over haul as well. One new inlet at least. Waiting to find out if the head is ok to recon. It had a turbo gasket on it. This is going to hurt. Could have got a new head off ebay for £45 recently. Why didn't I? :(
It was all nearly sorted as well.

Buggeration :x

Was it a valve spring broke you think?

Who have you got looking at the head then?

It's gone to a machine shop in Oldham to see if it's saveable. The valve was badly discoloured so it must have been sticking for a while. The head gasket looked like it was nearly dead. Theres a nasty lump on the alloy that looks like the casting may have been leaking! If so the heads stuffed. So yes it's a more bad luck. Valve springs look ok. They will be tested if the heads ok.
Somewhat disapointed. The pressure to sell is mounting.(Darn't tell the wife. That would be it.) Just searched ebay & there are no heads available at all.

Have you seen this post?

viewtopic.php?f=25&t=1734

There is a cylinder head listed, albeit with bent valves, maybe worth checking to see if it is still available?

I'm sure EMC will have an 8 Valve head for sensible money.

Thanks for all the replys. :) After all the work & money spent I can't quite believe it. Still waiting for the verdict on the old one. At least only one valve needed. The liners look perfect. Not sure why it was sticking in the first place though. Maybe the valve springs have got tired. :?

If it is salvagable you will presumably want all new springs and perhaps stem seals too?

Fingers x'd for you mate.

Adam

edit: and a new gasket of course!

Interesting. That's not far from me. I might be able to go along and have a look at it?

Thanks guys. Your stars. :D Still havn't heard from the engineer doing it so thats probably good news. He muttered somthing about the valves being the same as a VW van. Once he has the valve he will start to machine it up. The dodgey looking bit is over the middle between the wet liners so may just be a bit of corosion. Hopefully will know by Saturday.

steve at oldham engine center is excellent the place is possibly the best around. mention me (dave from millfold) see if you get and discount? probably not but there ya go. anyway if it can be done they will do it. and their skimming is second to non the faces are like mirrors after ;)
btw they supplied all my engine stuff and skimmed my heads and ground the crank.
