Removed the rear wheels from my 944 today and as I undid the nuts some of them crumbled at the edges leaving a nice powdery dust on the wheel and a rather less than useful wheel nut.

Is this a common thing and would I need to sell some organs on the black market for a new set of 20 from an OPC?

Lots of the specialists sell wheel nuts, Design 911, Jasmine etc. Worth putting a dab of Copa Slip on them as it lessens the chances of stripping the threads.

The copper slip is in place and they went on much easier. Just as well the car isn't on the road so I didn't need to torque them properly.

That first set are rather shiney and also rather expensive. Me and this car could have a falling out soon seeing as I spent half of my day drilling out the screws for the tailgate pin and having the tailgate land on my head several times.

Eventually, I'm just happy that it latches shut now, just a shame that the left one required a slight bit of bodging to get it to refit after the drilling but it's nice and sturdy now.

Now it's a question of starter motor or wheel nuts.

Wheel nut Torque figure is 93ft/lb so much tighter than normal style wheel nuts which are around 65lb/ft

Similar to the nuts on my Passat then, they're meant to be 89.

I just did the ones on the porsche up by hand and pushed it back into its usual resting place, if only it could move under its own steam eh?

Not sure how much the standard nuts cost but I've just bought a set of 4 locking nuts from our local OPC and they weren't cheap at over £40 :pale:

However, I would recommend that if you DO want locking nuts that you get genuine ones as I'm pretty sure the cheap ones that were on mine were upsetting the wheel balance..

I have a starter motor for it mate. But I'm in Staffordshire so postage would be pricey!

Solenoid is dead. The engine will turn over if I give it a smack with a hammer but doing that whilst holding the key is impossible.

Been pricing up a few from different places and GSF have the best price so far so waiting for my membership stuff to come through to use my discount on it ;)

ETA: Just found that Porsche Shop sell the wheel nuts for around the same price as the ones on ebay, think I'll go with them.
