just been watching hammond driving a gt3 in an old episode (2003) of top gear on dave. It’s a great article, well worth tracking down on you tube.

however, I noticed the hamster uses the pronunciation “porsh” whereas nowadays he, like all the other presenters, including those on 5th gear, use the pronunciation “porsher”.

like most people back in the day I used to call audi “ordee” before switching to “owdee” and I’ve always been a "porsh" man but what of everyone else and which is the correct pronunciation?

The German would be "porscha", I randomly swap betweem that and the obvious english pronunciation.

Say it however you like really. It's like a friend with the surname Strangé.. You can guess what we call her.

I always say 'Porsch' but I imagine if around a bunch of Germans I'd switch to 'Porscha' to please them.

One reason I don't normally use 'Porscha' is that it gives me a mental image of some poor girl who has been given the name in an attempt to install a hint of class (Apologies to anybody named or has named somebody Porscha).

More an American thing I believe, like calling them Lexus. It may only be a matter of time until we hear of a child called BMW.

I remember when Lexus first launched & were compared to Fiat & Alfa, but the MD of Lexus called them Alpha.
The MD of Alfa responded calling them Lecksus all the way through his letter!

As a kid in Northern Rhodesia in 1956 we had a Peugeot 203 as a 'courtesy car' when our Austin (Ostin) Somerset was in for a service. Looking at the car badge on the front, I was convinced the name should have been pronounced 'gergeott'. :!:
